PC Magazine and Ziff-Davis publications in general are the IT industry's come-guzzling queens.

Get this : in the Dec. 5 issue, they recommend a system based on the Intel 820 Chipset with High Speed RDRAM memory for power users who want a high end system.

The 815 chipset is for "corporate" and "entry-level" systems.

WHAT??????? Every benchmark I've seen shows both the 815 and 440BX kicking the 820's ass up and down the street.

Their Pentium 4 review showed the P4 kicking the PIII's ass. That's strange, because EVERY OTHER review I've seen shows it the other way around. Why do I think they only picked the benchmarks that showed the P4 in a good light?

It seems that Ziff-Davis has Intel's dick down its throat...

I get that magazine... I hate it. Reminds me of everything I stand against when it comes to computers... Their columnists are flaming idiots, who are in their late 40's/earily 50's and just don't get it. I mean, there's some avid stuff they say, but it's only stuff even the lamest of lamers would understand, too. They have this thing at the back that's supposed to be funny computer stuff, and it's always stupid... If I remember correctly, they get funding from Micr$$$oft, Intel, and I think a couple other major companies... All in all, it's a total sucky magazine. It sucks the all mighty suckhood of suckage... 'nuff said.

anyone who reviews products from companies they get funding from isnt going to be impartial. no, they might be impartial, but its rare, because they know their funding will be yanked...if you want a real review, you need to find a source who isnt supported by the companies whos products they review...thats just common sense...

PC Mag is mostly geared towards folks who are executives who need to have a cursory view of the computer industry, enough to recognize buzzwords as they fly by them in conversation. It's also aimed at middle-aged family folks who are just getting into the computer scene now. Nonetheless, these are the biggest cashcow of the industry. If you tell them that there best route is to go with a Wintel system with the latest greatest technology, it won't crash their fragile little world, and they will be happy with their purchases.

If PC Mag were to start supporting an Athelon system running the latest Debian distro, a lot of these folks would do something similiar to the pic in the 'Personguy's advice is phony' thread. They would quit buying the product, and they would quit buying the magazine.

It's their own little world, they aren't hurting anyone, they are helping to fund the space-race of chip and OS technologies, and they don't need to know the truth.

Disclaimer: I'm a diehard intel supporter, and an MS whore
