i hate being without my puter and my speakers. im on winter break, using a only decent laptop. luckily i managed to hook it up to my dsl. i hate the keyboard/screen/pad on this thing though. the keys are in all different places, and i frequently press home instead of backspace. grr! the thinkpad is even more annoying. sometimes its too sensitive, and other times its not sensitive enough. grr grr! oh well atlest i have a net connection. the dsl is actually faster then my t3 at school, which is always clogged with napster f00's.bah im just bored oh yeah, and being without my mp3/cd horde sux ass too. i borrowed a laptop for some work once.It was irritating as hell because my palm kept tapping the little cursor pad while i was typing, and it was set to interpret this as a click. So i'd be word processing away and the whole thing would end up a bloody mess because i kept accidentally moving the text cursor. hey, got USB?there is a place in most laptops to plugin an external keyboard. That with a USB mouse would solve your problems. ------------------ Posted by askheaves on Dec. 18 2000,13:29
I rented a laptop from my school for the last quarter I was there, and it was the hugest blessing ever. It was impossible to get work done in my room, because I am the king of creating distractions for myself. Plus, I had a really shitty work area (I found my desk on moveout day), so just getting elsewhere on campus was awesome.I put up with the touch pad, but what I couldn't stand was that my Compaq couldn't handle Win2K for some reason. Wierdest thing... the System Process would just eat 99\% of the CPU, then you could watch the kernal start eating memory about 4K a second, for about 20 minutes, then it would give back the memory 4K a second. Then, it would give back the CPU, and life would go on. It was the wierdest thing ever, and it would always happen. Another guy had the same model, and it happened to him too. So, don't buy the Compaq Armada 1750 (PII 300) and expect to put Win2K on it... wierdest thing I've ever seen in software. Posted by CatKnight on Dec. 18 2000,20:21

i'd rather be able to take my whole computer home with me. how about this-i'll trade you my laptop for express delivery of my whole computer to and from school 3 times a year for as long as i'm in college...

Slap a regular keyboard on it and consult the help files for the shortcuts.I agree tho, they are shit. The worst are those mouse-nipple things. I'd go with the pad anyday. Posted by hyperponic on Dec. 22 2000,13:00
its damn nice now and then to have a laptop for the road, etc. sometimes i just like being able to sit on my bed and type code...BUT, laptops are, overall, inferior to desktops, which is why i'd never pay good $$ for one. right now i've got a nice 'lil p90 system, and it does all that i need it to: run slackware linux in text mode. the keyboard can be a little annoying at times, but no biggie. forget the mouse, thou ------------------ This message has been edited by hyperponic on December 22, 2000 at 08:02 AM |
