It will be interesting to see what will happen to the market now.

I mean, the radeon is a pretty impressive card, and was a big improvement over the rage fury maxx, so we could see some good competition here.

Matrox. You never know. Granted, they targetted the G450 at the business market, and from that standpoint it is attractive. Matrox has a somewhat longer product cycle, but their products command some respect.

Them people that make the powerVR chips are promising. the tile based rendering is quite inovative and as they provide the chips for the dreamcast they now have a steady stream of revenue, which will probably show itself in the R&D budget.

Other people, like IBM may decide to try and take a slice o' the pie. IBM has made some fair cards in the past, although targeted mainly at professionals, but they make some of the fastest server and workstation CPUs. They could probably do something not-too-dire for the consumer gfx card market.

I hear SGI have been having some financial problems recently. Maybe they will attempt to enter the consumer card market to earn a few bob.

It's not quite a monopoly yet

yay...3dfx basically died and had their corpse sent to NVIDIA. NVIDIA now has all of the patents for the voodoo chip tech as well as the trademarks. took em long enough!

Ya, go NVida!!! They were definatly the better product, hands down. I mean, how can you sell a product to someone that won't fit in most peoples' case, required an external power supply, costs more than twice the competition, and STILL can't out perform it? The only thing I hope is is that NVidia will still keep up the level of quality and the price levels(or drop them) since most of their competition is gone. I just hope that ATI can give them enough challenge.

Now I think nvidia will dominate the higher end consumer market, while ATI will provide higher end chipsets, but will focus most of their energy providing companies like dell and compaq with cheaper cards to go into their computers. Matrox will continue producing a really great card annually. PowerVR and S3 at this time have really unsure futures and could go either way easily.

actually the radeon doesn't look all that bad. it has a tv tuner and video capture stuff...i think i would rather have a geforce 2 though.
