I'm not much on the whole IM software like ICQ, AIM and the such, but find it to be a damn near necessity to keep in touch with people. The reason I don't like most IM software is because it all seems to be so poorly written. The interface on ICQ looks like it was designed by a four year old, I don't especially want to run AOL software, and MS Messenger is pretty limited in functionality. To top that off, I know people that use several different applications. Why can't there just a fucking standard? Why can't they intercommunicate? Why must we live with shitty proprietary software? I would pay for a decent IM package that could communicate with ICQ, AIM and Messenger. Now I'm going to edit my profile and add my ICQ number because I again loaded it tonight. I suck ass. If you turn all the options on in ICQ it's actually a very nice messaging system, you just have to monkey with it for alittle. It's a whole lot better than AIM which in my opinion sucks big hairy dead rotting moose balls.

Yea, AIM's got like 5 ads on the screen. I turn all of the buttons and menus on the contact list off, and ICQ is pretty nice.

Yes, I have been playing with ICQ nearly all evening, and discovered this. You still have the problem of users of different services. I also need to have AIM, which is what my work uses.

There is a command-line version of ICQ.It's a slick clone you can compile for any system. Grab a copy here It doesn't have all the features regular ICQ has, but it gets the job done. What really makes it 1337 is that it was written by analyzing the packets ICQ sends and receives. Posted by incubus on May 25 2000,17:37
If you're running linux, check out < http://www.everybuddy.com/ > for a client that integrates AIM, ICQ, MSN and Yahoo! Pager. Since my ISA modem broke, I don't have the pleasure. But its sweet only having one interface.Yeah, I hate the ICQ interface, it's the ugliest thing on my desktop. Everythings so damn "square". I know theres something called MyCQ but that's buttfuxx0r ugly. Why doesn't a l33t programmer step into this breach and make a non-ugly ICQ client? They'd be a hero! ------------------ |
