Why are parents such assfucks? Seriously. I mean, I understand the Sinbad theory "you made 'em crazy!", but it just doesn't fit for most cases of your idiotic nature.Like just 15 minutes ago... I know I've said this before, we're getting DSL soon. Actually, we have DSL, just we can't use it yet. I'm questioning the modem we got for the self install crap. I want to run it through my linux box, because that's a lot more then my windows box, and I just want my linux box to use it more then I want my windows box to. I found drivers for the modem today on freshmeat, and it requires a whole lot of other shit, which is poorly documented and even more poorly setup (if I have to patch and recompile one more kernel this week, I swear I'm going to blow up a moderately sized building). Anyways... I spent about 3 hours, on and off, attempting to get my linux box set up, with some, but not complete, success. I figured it would take a lot more work to get working correctly, because I'll have to read about 80 man pages atleast to a degree I can use the commands for the stuff I have to, and then after the modem is setup figure out how to get the damned thing to connect to my ISP. I told my dad that, and just gave me a stupid look like the idiot that he has tend to be in the past. So I tell him I figure we should just get a DSL/Cable router and a home phoneline network, and gives me this "what the fuck are you talking about?" look (the mean kind, not the confused one), then proceeds to yell at me about how he just wants the modem setup so we're at least some way using it and all this other bullshit. Now, he doesn't just say that, he says it to me like I just shot someone in the eye with a b-b gun. I don't know if many people around here use their DSL for one computer at a time, but I know I don't want to. He said, "for now", we're just gonna use the modem on one computer, and when my mom wants it I'll have to unplug the whole damned thing, and give it to her so she can use it on her laptop. I'm sorry, but that's complete bullshit. We have 4 computers that would be using the line, and 2 more that could if I get bored enough to put NIC's in them... so anyways... This isn't really for the Geeks forum, because I'm not looking for help on the DSL shit (although any would be greatly appreciated), but does anyone else see this as bullshit? lol, my parents r great, my mom dont know dick about comps, and my dad knows his fair share. We have dsl using the linksys router, we have it hooked up to mine, my 2 brothers, just a computer in the "computer room", my dads comp downstairs, and a line into the living room, when my dad wants to do stuff on the web while he sits in his sofa chair, and watch tv with my mom. It sucks when parents dont know dick about comps, and they think its too much of a pain in the ass to setup, and they think the world will end if u do a thing like that.
