Long time no argue guys. Too long. This election reminded me of something I read back in high school…Good old James Madison, I believe, warned the American people about the one evil that could corrupt our “Checks and balances” and three (supposedly) distinct branches of government. That one evil? Guess…yep it was political parties…people getting together and forming an entity that could violate the sanctity of our government by infiltrating Every Distinct Branch. The government was set up so that the whims of the few couldn’t dictate the futures of all, yet through the Political Corporations, the republican and democrat parties, we have created an industry out of politics. Don't tell me you don't see it; any political science majors out there? Like Jessie Ventura, reform party governor of Minnesota, I am very wary of the CAREER POLITICIAN. That is, the politician that is out of a job unless he is elected. What it makes are men that no longer have serving their country as their first priority, but serving themselves as it. And it creates men like Al Gore and George Bush, both doing all they can, despite what the country needs, to gain political office. The billions of dollars and hordes of effort from all over America that goes into this fighting makes me sick; neither men seem to really care about the future of this country more than the future of their careers. Thus I see abortion, one of those key issues this election, as staying legal DESPITE which moron gains office. Why? Do you honestly think little Georgie is going to (1 even manage to get the congress and senate to draft documents to make abortion illegal (Because we all remember that the president doesn't draft bills OR make adjustment to the tax system right?) and (2 approve it despite the fact that OVER 75\% of the AMERICAN PUBLIC (All part affiliations included) support the legality of abortion. The man won’t touch it; HE WILL PROBABLY WANT TO RUN AGAIN IN 2004!

These kinds of tactics seem to over come the evil of political parties and they show the true selfishness of the majority of today’s politicians. Everyone has talked about “corrupt politicians”, but what do you think of the Political Career, its affects on the American Public and Government, and the way political parties assist such mindsets?

(Just one more thing; since the senate and congress are both contain a republican majority, scores of supposedly hard-core democrats are SWITCHING PARTIES. This is to maintain and obtain important seats in the comities that their states value; but guess what? Yep, they don't just “say” they are switching; history has shown that they do actually change their values and actions. (Republicans turn democrat too, when they can benefit) This would be fine to me, except it ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THEY CAN BENEFIT, like now, when they can be a part of the wining side! ARG!)

What do you think? Its difficult to think of other systems we could use…but its not impossible. Moreover, we have seen the complete irrational idiocy our current system can produce just this week with the good ol’ electoral college bull shit….

sometimes they switch because they dont agree with the party values anymore. i.e. a lot of democrats became republican here in VA after schools were integrated. its not necessarily an evil thing....

Client... meet your Server!!!!

I agree with most of what you say. It's a sad state of affairs when the only thing a certain person is capable of doing is either being rich, or being a big politician. I'm right there with Jesse (MN native) in the fear of career politicians. The current incarnation of the politician has followed Darwin's theories to the letter. They have become the perfect public opinion measurers. They are the canaries in the coal mines.

What I disagree with is that this is the worst thing that could happen. It is a nice thought that the politicans have to cater to our whims. The continuing terms is a wonderful stick with a carrot on a string held in front of the jackasses. In the tradition of James Madison, it makes it harder for one man to throw the system into or out of whack... they have to consider personal consequences. Jesse hasn't done that great of a job in Minnesota, or so the reports I get have been telling me. I don't live there, so I couldn't tell you what factors are contributing. But it is a nice thought that if a politician opposes 75\% of the country's opinions, that they will be on their butts in under 4 years (6 for congress).
