i don't know if there is already a topic about this or not.
i will post about my work after lunch. Posted by DuSTman on Oct. 26 2000,14:42
I am a student. I suspect many of the other people that post here also are (not certain about this though)I'm a second year, studying combined science (comupting and physics) No pay, but the student loans are decent enough, and the univerity has peacocks, so all is good. They give me a PIII 650 laptop, a cellphone, and then tell me to play around on it for 8 hours a day, and then twice a month they'll send me money. Life is good. Seriously, I make and maintain B2B and B2C e-commerce websites. I spend 3-4 days per week working from home, and when it comes to my area, my job will pay for a high-speed connect for me. I guess that college education really is paying off. ------------------ "If it's not one thing, it's two." Posted by askheaves on Oct. 26 2000,15:39
I'm a recent grad. I have a job where, when we get the right tools in, I will be developing software for a cool new system for measuring vehicle emissions, without you needing to stop your car or go anywhere special. In fact, you may drive through our system and not even know it, then you get a letter in the mail that your 82 Datson is burning oil, only one cylindar is working, and you're spouting off more CO than the coal refinery... and that you are in violation of the EPAs air quality statutes. Finally, on the fun side of big brother. I work at a CVS pharmacy. In the words of Jake Lloyd: "Whoopie."

i work in dot com hell! i am the image editor and i only get paid ů.50 an hour (i'm not sure how much i should be making but i know it is more than that). there are 7 of us who do the programming (or image editing in my case) we are all under paid and over worked. management is dumb/retard/fuckingstupid. they are unorganized, which basicly means everything that gets done gets done 7 or 8 times and then it gets changed 2 or 3 times before it is changed again. sure it is work and we should do what we are told but when 5 uppermanagement ppl are telling you to do the same thing in 5 different ways it just gets old and it's more unnecessary work. all the management people are in each others work so everything is all fucked. and get this, none and i will repeat NONE of them can use a goddamn computer to save their life! we are also their tech support. they can't read help files! they think you can mix ms access with sql, they send us the same email from everyone "up there" to tell us something that we have already fixed. our "Business Man" tells all our affilets that we have certain ""insertstupiddotcombullshithere"" so they will sign up when we have all ready told him we are going to do that because of everyone has out their resumes (execpt me) and we are all basicly fucking management. there not going to get anyone to fix the site for what they pay us. i can't leave. if i leave this job then i'm going to have to work at some shitty factory until i can improve on some marketable skills (which is hard with no computer at home) i can go on and on and on and on and on (see why i waited till after lunch) what do you guys/girls think? (other than we have a management problem) Posted by Althornin on Oct. 26 2000,21:51
I work for Houston Community College <Houston, Texas> doing tech work. Basically, i maintain and admin a NT network for ป.10 an hour. I really enjoy what i am doing, it is interesting and shit, its cool knowing all the shit i know. I work part time, 19.5 hours per week, any more and they'd have to give me benefits...and i go to school <University of Houston> studying Computer Science in my spare time <taking 14hrs this semester>. Work involves anyhting from editing profiles to installing stuff, to fixing <UGH!!> macs <shudder>. Posted by whiskey@throttle on Oct. 27 2000,05:36
I'd like to say I'm a writer, but by no means do the monthly articles I write suffice as a decent source of income. I graduated last year, and began working as an independent legal contractor for the homicide branch of my county's Public Defender (not as glamorous as it may seem). However, no indigent folks have been killing anyone lately, so my work (and $$) began to run a bit thin. As such, I pulled away from the fascinating world of legal nonsense and started working for the mega-conglomerate< Kohler Co. > as a graphics artist (writing and designing layouts, pictures, postcards, ads, et cetera...) The corporate life reminds me of Fight Club. Regardless, I'm going back to grad school next August. Can't wait to be a student again. damn ubb code This message has been edited by whiskey@throttle on October 26, 2000 at 12:40 PM Posted by fatbitch on Oct. 27 2000,11:18
all 4 cylinders in my 85 telstar are firing, its not burning oil, and its in no way violation of any pollution standards, but that still sounds like a way cool job heaves, especially when its finished! pity we wont have it publicly accessable (in australia) for a few years i bet i deliver pizzas (as some may know) the work is ok, the pay is ok, my boss is a FUCKING RETARD but i have stolen hundreds of dollars of shit from him so it balances out. funny thing is, if he trusted me more, i would be more trustworthy, as it is, he feels the need to babysit all his staff cause he is a tightass, consequesntly he cant trust any of us and everytime he steps out of the shop he loses about 贄 (AUS) of stock ------------------ Metal/Electronic/Ambient etc.. quote: Hahaha! I work as a salesman in Sears; I'm the asshole who is selling those macs to the uninformed population. It’s a pretty shitty job but us dumb-asses who don’t have a bunch of scholarships have to pay for college somehow ------------------ Posted by dido on Oct. 27 2000,19:28
I work for York University making ว.00/hour as a Graduate Assistant. I do basically nothing and get paid pretty well. That is on top of being a grad student. For my job I am assigned to two professors, and do stuff like designing flyers advertising seminars and searching the internet for information on specific subjects for my profs. It's a SWEET job! ------------------ Posted by jim on Oct. 28 2000,05:24

Java sucks (that's what I am using for my current project). Anyhow, i am making ร/hour, so it pays the bills. And not bad for not ever going to college I guess =/------------------ Posted by Wolfguard on Oct. 30 2000,11:26

i study computer engineering, earn money to finance this by working wherever i can until i graduate and get a full time gig.so far i've worked as a caterer, a cook, on a dairy farm, done construction work, and had internships with an engineer for the dept of transportation. soon i'll be all done with college and finding the job that will pay back my student loans. i don't make a million dollars a year, and i don't care if i ever do. as long as i can live in a state where concealed carry is legal and there are geek jobs, i'll be happy ------------------ |
