drunk or not, you have a damn good pointnoone tips anyone in australia, it rocks no obligation, cause staff get paid enough to put food on their table. i deliver pizzas for a little cash on the side, and this is one of the only proffesions in aus where tips come. i would say about 30-35\% of people give me tips, i am appreciative when they do, and i let them know it, but if they dont, hey, they just spent ฦ on pizzas (halve for US currency) and i get paid ū.50 out of that so who am i to complain if they dont tip me? i dont care it does annoy me though when old people think they are doing you some huge favour by giving you 10 or 20 cents this old lady seriously gave me 20 cents and said "theres two bob for you my boy" i almost thought she was gonna add "don't spend it all in the one place" or something ------------------ Posted by Sithiee on Oct. 17 2000,08:28
well i still tip people based on their service. like i remember this one time when i had ordered chinese food, and the dude took an hour to get there (after saying something like 30 minutes) so i didnt give him a tip, cause it was sposed to be food comes, i eat it in ten minutes and go to sleep. but instead i had to stay awake another half hour (you dont know how tired i get sometimes). and then my friend started lecturing me on how im sposed to tip everyone no matter how bad their service was. wtf???and then there was the pizza dude who took about an hour and a half to get to my house (i know for a fact it doesnt take an hour and 15 minutes to make a pizza, cause it takes at max 15 minutes to get to the pizza place) and then he gave me a dirty look when i didnt tip him for shitty service. whats going on when tip has become something people think is required?? No tippin in the pubs in the UK either. It's called minimum wage. We have one and if you are earning it for providing a regular service, you don't get tipped. Beer's expensive enough in London. There is also the point to be made that, in this kind of environment, when I tip a bartender well early in the night, I invariably get great service from them thoughout the evening. They almost seem to ignore other people when I am at the bar. so you do win when you tip in a no tipping society.I do, however, tip appropriate to the level of service I feel I received when eating out and other stuff. I am a heavy tipper. I know that a big tip will get me remembered during my next trip to the bar. I get great service. On the other hand there is one worthless little bitch that can't pour a drink to save her life. I wont even sit at her bar and it pisses her off. She even complained to the manager who then came down on the rest of the staff. I heard about this and went off on the manager and told him exactly what was wrong with the little bitch and why I, and NO ONE else, was a regular at her bar.Point is this. I tip well and expect service. If you good to me, im good to you. If you fuck me ill get you fired. Little bitch is still looking for a job...I go to a lot of bars ------------------ Posted by Rhydant on Oct. 17 2000,12:44
this was on some day-time talk show like maury or something awhile back. Ms. America 1999 lives in New York City and makes Ŭ.50 an hour as a waitress. i'd say fuck that. she makes more in tips-an-hour than she does her regular pay. just think about that one... if people didnt tip, then the restaurant (spelling?) would have to charge more for food to pay the waitresses better. git what im saying? no? THEN YOUR ALL DRUNKARDS! *hic*------------------ Posted by jim on Oct. 17 2000,12:58
quote: I was just about to bring up bars. That is the only place where I tip extremely well. Resturaunts and stuff I tip ok, unless the waitress is really good, and really hot. But at the bar I normally tip about ŭ on a บ tab, บ on a ฤ tab, and ฤ on a โ tab. Needless to say I get excellent service, occasional free drinks, and that sexy little bartender, Bridget, flirts with me all night long... Worth every penny. ------------------ Posted by askheaves on Oct. 17 2000,14:07
I think I'm the same as most of you out there. I tip well in resturaunts. I divide the price by 6, then round up the total to the dollar. It comes out roughly between 16\% and 20\% usually then. At bars, I don't keep a tab. If the beer is ũ.50, I leave the quarters behind. If it's Ū.00, then I leave a dollar behind every other beer. Pretty standard stuff, and I notice that people appreciate.I will never tip a god damn pizza delivery guy. What's your job? Drive... get paid for the miles, and show up at my door to make change. I usually just pay then and don't take back any jingly change... 12 cent tip? Ah hahahahaha Posted by dido on Oct. 17 2000,16:03
It's a little easier in Ontario (Canada) since our taxes (Provincial and Federal) equal 15\% which coincidentaly is the amount one is "supposed" to tip. So I just add up the taxes and leave that amount, unless the waiter was very good then I leave more. Once though I went out to dinner with my husband and waited 45 minutes for our drinks, just the drinks!!! After we were done our meal (a 2 hour affair) I left 3 cents. I even took the dimes and quarters from the change. So I can be pretty vindictive when it come to horrible service.I won't tip pizza delivery guys (or any delivery guy) either for the same reason as others have mentioned. It seems pointless and stupid and I never get the same delivery person twice so I don't have to worry about shody service. Not to mention the old 30 minutes or its free rule...gotta love that! ------------------ Posted by Blain on Oct. 17 2000,16:34
I used to have a class with a guy who worked as a pizza deliveryman, once I heard him ranting about people who tip less then ŭ.00 to have their fucking pizza delivered. Apparently he (and a few others) would be sure spit on the pizza of these “cheapskates” the next time they had one delivered. Needless to say, I now pick up my own damn pizza. As for tipping in bars, I am only 20 so I have never been presented with the opportunity. However, I don’t think I could be anything *but* generous to someone who is serving me sweet, sweet, alcohol. ------------------ Posted by Blain on Oct. 17 2000,17:52
I just got done listening to love line and Adam was ranting about tipping. That got me going, so…Is anyone else a little pissed off about the growing number of people that you are supposed to tip for providing the service that they ARE PAID TO PROVIDE? I recently got a haircut and I was expected to tip the “hair stylist” for her work. WTF?!? I JUST PAID YOU ฟ TO TAKE A FUCKING PAIR OF CLIPPERS TO MY HEAD FOR 8 MINUTES AND NOW YOU WANT A TIP?!? And what about tipping waitresses? (yes, I always tip, and usually pretty well) I just dropped ฤ for one fucking plate of food (I know it isn’t much, but I am in college) and the restaurant can’t afford to pay their own damn staff? BULLSHIT. My favorite is when the tip is included in the bill; hey, my waiter just took 45 minutes to fuck up my entire order, I think I’ll tip him 15\%. Now, I know that tipping is most of a waiter’s income; BUT, a tip is supposed to be payment for service above and beyond your job description. I RARELY see anyone in any profession doing more then the minimum that is expected of them. In the words of Dennis Miller: “That’s just my opinion, I could be wrong” BTW: yes, i am pretty damn drunk right now ------------------ Posted by demonk on Oct. 17 2000,20:59
One time this really nice waitress at a Red Robin kept the place open for like 30 minutes after the regular closing time for me and a bunch of my friends. I left her a really big tip since she took time out of her night to wait on us. That is what tipping is for. Whenever I get served by really crappy waiters/waitresses, I leave about 25 cents. This tells them that I didn't forget to tip, but that they gave poor service and so got a poor tip.And on the subject of the pizza delivery guys spitting into pizzas of people who don't pay at least ŭ tips, you should go and get them fired. I'm serious! People like that shouldn't be anywhere near other people's food. If I were to ever find out about that around where I live, you can be sure that the manager would hear of it. I ate at a chinese buffet place once. The food was average, for a buffet. They have one or two waiters that just take you to your seat, give you your plates, and then give you the bill.We were about to leave (we'd left the payment on the table), and the waiter stopped us and insisted in broken english that we leave a tip. We were flabbergasted -- why would you tip someone who hadn't provided a service? Sure, I'll give you an extra buck or two if you actually bring me my food. But that was idiotic. -Gabe This message has been edited by Gabe on October 17, 2000 at 12:27 PM Posted by fatbitch on Oct. 18 2000,11:08
quote: wtf? yes i get paid to deliver pizzas, but the guy at the bar also gets paid to serve your drinks, please explain how you arent contradicting yourself. btw i dont get paid per mile (or kilometre) whether im going next door or halfway accross the freakin country i get paid the same per delivery Blain: like i said, i dont care if i don't get tipped, and i have never intentionally put any of my bodily substances on a pizza. yuck! thats gross! one time i accidentaly dribbled over a pizza while i was cutting it, half went in the bin, the other half went into my mouth ------------------ Metal/Electronic/Ambient etc.. This is not directed at you fatbitch: For you little delivery fucks that spit on the pizza i got something for you. Got me one of those uv lights that make body fluids glow(cusin is a cop). Great thing when you light up that big goober in the middle of the pie and just look at the guy and say "hope you liked your job, fucknugget." Im still getting free pizza from one place so i did not sue or report them to the Dept of health. ------------------ Posted by fatbitch on Oct. 18 2000,15:08
wow i want one of those gadgets! maybe they should make the pizza boys carry them around, and the customer can request a scan of the food before paying for it? if they became cheap enough you could have them in every fast food place, where the shop could not refuse a customer request to have the product scanned... hmmm :)i understand your point now about the bartender, and when i eventually get my arse to a bar (just recently came of legal age) i will be sure to tip the bartender, thanks :) i was also thikning about getting a bartending job. has anyone done this? what kind of a job is it? better than delivering pizzas? <g> :) ------------------ Metal/Electronic/Ambient etc.. quote: "Here's a tip: Go to school, muthafucka." Any jackass who asks for a tip should get nothing more than the preceding. If you don't like your salary, that's not my fault...But hey, that's society for you. We live in this kitschy, chic social market of mandated do's and don'ts, approved and perpetuated by hapless masses of sheep who live as if on their way to imminent slaughter. It's this trendy yet secular, "help your fellow man while you can" vibe, in which certain jobs of worth are deemed tip-worthy by a semi-concious majority of consumers. When I think of mandatory tipping mores, I think of the jet-setting Gwen Stefani wannabe - marching her saddlebag ass in a "meat is murder" protest while donning juicy, 贶 leather shoes. It's the pulp of pure hypocrisy; ripe, American and readily available. Heck, why not tip the sweating gardener toiling in the back of your yard? The pimpled geek shoveling fries for Ŭ.75/hr at McDonalds? The FedEx man who works 18 hour days and drove halfway around the county to deliver your ecommerce treasures? Ushers who pick up the festering goop that you spill during every movie? Maggot-handling garbagemen? The Mail lady? Me? Prove you deserve the tip, and I'll tip. Peddle for it, and you'll get nothing but my middle digit up your salty ass. Posted by whiskey@throttle on Oct. 18 2000,23:59
Are you sure bartenders make less than minimum wage? Last I checked, federal law mandated every employer to pay workers no less than a certain standardized amount. (ŭ.25?)
Posted by Wolfguard on Oct. 19 2000,11:06
waitstaff and bartenders can be paid below min wage. Im not sure what it is now but its about a buck less than the min.------------------ Posted by Rhydant on Oct. 19 2000,13:11
damnit, all this talk about booze and pizza is making me hungry...one time i was at this comapny party at a small mexican food place. it was nice, and there was only 2 waitresses for like 45 people (it was a buffet too, but someone gotsa get the drinks and crap). needless to say the head-guy gave each waitress a 50+ dollar tip, in addittion to paying them for there real service. hah.. i want to do that... ------------------ Posted by Blain on Oct. 19 2000,14:37
quote: I work on commission as a salesmen in the electronics department at Sears, I make exactly Ũ.00 per hour base pay. Therefore absolutely everything I earn is from sales- if you can’t sell you don’t get paid. In the event that your sales do suck sears will pay you Ů.00 per hour. HOWEVER they consider this money a loan and automatically deduct wages from you next check (and every subsequent check) until you have paid them back. I don’t know if that qualifies, but when I work a 6 hour shift for a grand total of ũ.50 I sure-as-shit feel like I'm making less then minimum wage… ------------------ Posted by Vigilante on Oct. 19 2000,15:34
Yup. Commission is bullshit.

minimum wage only applies to per hour paying jobs. thats why salary and comission jobs suck. they can get away with paying you .01 cents an hour as long as its not an actual per hour you work rate. salary jobs are usually for people who end up working really long hours so that the company can screw you...my dad is on salary...US GOV pays upwards of like 120k a year. thats one reason i hate all these "downsize the government completely." people, cause theyre trying to put my mom, my dad, and my uncle out of a job. but hey, if it helps that president get re-elected, its all good, right?...bastards....what was my point again? oh yes. dont eat moldy cheese.

How Minimum Wage Really Works:Are you in a job where you are expected to make your money from tips? But, you make tips. Otherwise, whether you are commission on just hourly, you make ŭ.15 <or is it up to 5.25 now?> per hour, minimum. If you are on commission, you still are gauranteed 5.15 per hour. you can make more if your commision is high. However, unlike with tips, which add on to the 2.13 minimum wage, comsiion doesnt add to the 5.15 wage. if it is higher, it replaces it, thats all. ------------------ Posted by mqa on Oct. 22 2000,19:15
there are lots of countries where there is no tipping at all, and while i dont believe tipping should be nessecary, i do it anyway.
