Hello. Detnet is a living thing, isn't it? Always changing, always different with people coming and going.
I made a choice yesterday to do away with all admins and mods except one about 12 hours off who could catch things I couldn't. Yah. Incubus, who btw hosted the old forums so I have an implied but unspoken trust.
I have insulted all the moderators suddenly.
I demoted, or allowed to be demoted, all but a token one of the Admins.
The Admins are good people; what is going on here?
Yesterday was sort of an interesting event seeing Wiley's post about "where is the classroom" (what?)
to RS saying he wanted to chat about destroying a good part of my Forum. (what?)
I have been advised numerous times, including my enemies, to get rid of all admins. The problem with enemies is that they tell you the truth. They want it to hurt.
There were reports by a respectable long-time Detvet that there were more deletions going on late in the day. After the RS thing was banned and over.
So, with a friend, I decided to end all mods and admins for the time being to sort this out.
Then I got the static.
I got the sad posts from Wiley, who is as far as I can tell, one of the best human beings ever, to n00bs I don't know who are confused.
Then WG just says, dude, do what you gotta do, I'm here.
(watta relief.)
Some of the Admins took this most personally.
I know that night as I the owner was banned for a few minutes. What do you think I felt?
I'm tired of advice and criticism.
I'm tired of being victim to how others feel.
There are many excellent reasons to return those admins/mods. But this is politics.
I declare my independance.
I will always need all of you but I must chart my own path.
I need to find where we would belong.

I'm w/ed. It's the smart thing to do, it's the right thing to do. He's gone through a lot of thought and a lot of anguish about this. Any of you sad sacks has a problem with that, you can take it up with me.

I think you'll be seeing the quality improve around here without this big divided line between admins and non-admins.I've been doing admin stuff professionally for over 10 years. And I've been put in that akward place many times when have to tell people who you consider friends... No.

After all the crazy shit that has happened here, it's about damn time something drastic was done.I know how much ed hates discord and how hard it must have been to remove most of the admins (and all the mods). A lot of them are good people who aren't power-hungry crazies with a trigger-happy finger over a "smite" button ... at least the ones who understood why he had to do this revamp.
This place feels a lot more stable, and I feel a lot better.

So I wake this am to pee and grab another big beer, and I see that some admins have been restored, but not all.DL did this without my knowledge.
I would've preferred to be in the loop on this.
He did mention it, but I didn't know he would just do it.
It was not my intent, but I think to contradict Jon and undo them again would be a Bad Thing.
So here we go. None of those people have done Detnet any harm and have of course helped in many ways, and they didn't deserve that slap when I dumped everyone in the panic reaction when I heard there were more deletions.
Damn maybe I'll make more admins then. Bob_the_cannibal was doing a great job, stirring things up (uh oh) and provoking discourse. Maybe he should be one again. And Beldurin, he's such a good soul.
I was telling one of the ex-admins yesterday to deal with it, this is how it is.
And now I have to do it myself.
I will not undo what DL has done.
At least this makes the Forums an interesting place to visit.
btw the picture is of Vishnu, the Destroyer of Worlds, which is how I felt when I posted that. Like a Destroyer.
WG was OK, Kuru was deeply insulted, and Wiley didn't return a phone call. I felt a lot of pain going through that (think I was happy?) and I decided to stick it out.
Shit, I shouldn't tell you guys this at all.

i dont know what you looking for but here's two cents worth coming from a member of 8 days and 30 posts:i approve. i've been at a forum with like 80% of the people were admins and the place eventually fell apart. i dont want that to happen to Detnet.

...grow some danglies man. You make a decision and have it immediately taken back by a subordinate and you say you'll stick with their decision? WTF? You're the end-all-be-all as far as the domain is concerned, you own it which means you can do whatever the fuck you want with it.

that is more cruel than I need to be.
Those Admins were not feeling good about demotion and they are all strong interesting people friendly to Detnet.
I have danglies but I also have honor.
I would that they have their danglies left too.

Um ...if you called the cell it's dead and needs a new battery. I'm going to cancel it in the near future. I got your email late last night and I replied and sent it this morning. I don't take it personally, like I said in the email I'm all for there being as few admins as possible. Just make sure they are admins who act only in the best interest of the comunity and don't do anything on a whim or out of emotion. Level headed people ...that's what you want.

I totally agree with Wiley, and this what I have said all along. Admins should be passive but massive. How many times have you seen me whip out the blender and shake things up?I'm glad to see people rallying round Kevin. It's a tribal thing.
