this is not a flame/troll, but a legitimate question/idea pair about this forum's politics.Kbreak: did you have to pick controversial moderators? I really would've prefered DSL, you or Wiley, and Wolfguard or myself as mods, because they are all neutral, and do not go after the bait, mostly. hard to flame a neutral. even better, hold an election. which would suck, because if you use the iB poll, some users can't vote... best option: get a poll CGI from somewhere and set up the poll on the main page. top 3 users in the vote (not counting you and DSL) get admin in politics. Fair, democratic elections. Scary that people could actually have a say in their representation anywhere just an idea to cut the noise in here. Posted by editor on Jun. 04 2002,23:06
You have a valid point, there.I learned a lot lately. I can't help it if I like a lot of people. They make me purr. Posted by damien_s_lucifer on Jun. 05 2002,00:51
the original moderators for this forum were chosen to represent a fair sample of Detnet's politics, so that people wouldn't complain about bias.we've learned a thing or two about appeasement. as for elected moderators, it's a good idea on paper but I don't think it would work too well in practice. we want admins who are fair and to the point, which doesn't always translate well into popularity. consider us a benevolent dictatorship, one that guarantees your rights so long as you don't go trampling the rights of others Posted by chmod on Jun. 05 2002,01:22
I'm pretty disappointed in what's been going on in the politics forum recently... DSL, that attack on CK in the environmental issues thread was very childish; and it was just as childish for him to retaliate. I know you said that thing about allowing ad hominem attacks, but I still thought it was uncalled for. It was your idea in the first place to set up the politics forum to avoid petty arguments like this, so why take any chances on screwing it up?

yeah nice balance here. you impeached the only conservative moderator, and keep making excuses to flame me and get away with it.what DSL meant by allowing ad hominem attacks that were witty was that he was allowed to make the attacks, but no one else was, because in his mind, he is the only one who is witty enough.
Hey, in my opinion, my rant was witty, and yours was not. who are you to force your opinion on me? ironic that you all call me a right-wing fascist, when I think it is obvious DSL is the only fascist-like minded one here. Posted by damien_s_lucifer on Jun. 05 2002,02:07
the system administrator. Posted by Dysorderia on Jun. 05 2002,02:07
1. he removed you for deleting too many posts 2. CK, shut your trap. There isn't a conspiracy against you. we don't all secretly labor to keep you from posting freely. Posted by Bob_the_Cannibal on Jun. 05 2002,02:44
... Why am I feeling like I'm getting a good grounding in "How Government really works"?seriously, a popular election translates exactly the same as a sampling of beliefs. People vote for the most moderate candidate. Everyone understands that CK is too... ...um... ...passionate about his position(s), to the point that some people would say he is a fanatic. moderate candidates make for the best use. Consider: Who's finger would you rather have on the porverbial "end-the-world, nuke-your-and-everyone-else's-ass-back-to-pre-primordial-soup-days, button"? a clean-cut, clean shaven, straight arrow, agnostic, apolitical, open minded person, who is more sane than you are. or a closed minded, bigoted, alcoholic, pot smoking, fascist, racist, extremist cult member, who hates jews, catholics, protestants, muslims, other cults, cows, russians, asians, africans, and Native Americans, who drops trees on squirrels for fun... it's the same thing, to a lesser degree, on this board. A moderate candidate, open minded, is the best. moderate candidate. moderator - it's root is moderate. therefore, moderator == moderate person. == person who is least likely to disagree with everyone. DSL: your logic is slightly flawed:

I understand that sysadmins must maintain efficiency and order, but, and I don't take sides often, CK has a valid point. Opinion should have no basis for rules. opinion-based rules lead to bias, stereotyping, and other such nasty things that closed-minded people do. syf0nize me if you must, but this just needed to be said.
