Should we plan a detnet weekend somewhere. Say somewhere mutual for everyone where hopefully the brunt of the community could attend. I mean if its out west, heck I could drive up and meet beldy in IL (is it?) and we can ride together or what have you. Just a thought.. I remember when I used to hang out in #kentucky_hottub on irc we used to have a weekend once a year in the Great Smokey Mountains..dave

Let me preface my view with this: First, I'm real new around here and probably wouldn't deserve to go to DNCon. Second, I don't know the community, and I hear rumors of a vicious flame war or something. That aside:I think it would be really neat to get the community together. We did something similar with the gaming community at our university, and we all found lots of new aquaintances, if not new friends.
As mentioned before in the post, it would have to be somewhere central[BFE, Illinois], or somewhere easy to get to [Near a major airport].
But yeah. Hinging on the how the community interacts, it could be a really good idea. Then again, the disruptive elements might make it a real fiasco. But I say go for it, at least once.

Well...first, someone needs to assemble a geographic chart of where everybody lives. I recall one user having done this a while ago, right around when kbreak bought the site.After that happens, then a median location for an east and west coast meeting location could be decided...

I'll come, if my car isn't screwed. See the rants forum.It would be interesting to meet detnetters. I've got an idea. Everyone who reads this, post where you are from, even if everyone knows already. Someone go get a U.S. (or even WORLD) map, and put a pin in where people are. Then, choose a major city by a lot of pins. Outliers get a bit screwed, but at least we'll get organized.

If this does happen can we at least have someplace that has a decent connection to the outside world so that us folks abroad can be in on it. ya know have it passworded for detnet users and stuff so we dont get too many trolls and shit.and play something OTHER than CS for christ's sake. not all of us like to play online games where you have to download enough update code to re-write the game 50 times.

Actually, I'll be flying in and out of Chicago - but I'm going to be in Milwaukee for GenCon.
If I had a choice I'd be there for a week and spend one weekend at Bristol Renfaire and the other at GenCon, but what can ya do. Mostly I'm visiting friends from Seattle and the UK that'll be out there at the same time.
