the ZiO! it reads compactFlash cards like in cameras and stuff. i've had mine for about 6-8 months. it's USB. the compactFlash cards come in like 16mb, 32mb, 64mb, 128mb, 256mb, 512mb, and they have a 1gb. cool shit.

The problem with junk like this is that there are too many solid-state disk formats floating around...although a few have prevailed, there really needs to be only one for the system to work well.The most impressive system to me is Sony's Memorystick. Almost all of the computer peripherals I own take MemorySticks. To get a good jump on the market, Sony has created some of the most impressive peripherals on the market -- Clie PDAs and digital cameras, and MP3 players among them. When you add in the fact that they all take Memory sticks, it makes life a lot easier. It's also a good brand loyalty system/marketing strategy.
Some examples of hardware that Sony makes which is MemoryStick compliant and kicks the asses of most other products would be...
digital camera: Sony F707 (pro-sumer, ~$900)
mp3 player: Song Network Walkman (nw-ms9...fuckin' tiny!
PDA: any Clie, really...

big deal! i have a good old SanDisk SDDR-31 USB Compact Flash reader, nothing new here. All the CF readers can read the cards of all capacity, do you know why? Because the CF is using the same IDE protocol than your HD.
The only thing even remote to interesting is there's a FireWire reader too
