I use MS but hate the company
Posted by ^Oni^ on Jun. 19 2002,20:41
I don't like how they do business.

Win2K had a bug list numbering 60,000+ on release and then they just wait for the consumer to call and bitch. If they get enough bitching about one bug, BOY HOWDY, WE GET A SERVICE PACK! :D

FUCK M$!!! i use Windows 98 untill i can get AOL to run on my RedHat Linux. I hate AOL, but my mom wont switch to another ISP. AOL wants to take over RedHat. Just imagine what the world will be like if, when AOL and Micro$oft join up... its gonna happen s0meday. Its gonna be even worse if AOL buys RedHat... *starts crying*

"Some of the network administrators from KPNQWest, although they have been (apparently) ordered to shutdown the network, took over control of the KPNQWest NOC. They are trying to keep the network running and keep customers up, regardless of KPNQWest's insolvency. The company warned on Thursday that they would be forced to shut down KPNQwest's entire European data network on Monday unless its customers paid their bills in full immediately." There's a related story on the Register, talking about the possible effect on UK internet access. If anyone needs to hire some network engineers...

... ahhhhhhhhhh rite.

Don't blame the player, blame the game! Microsoft is not evil. Trying to eliminate competition is called "doing buisness."

No, it's called a monopoly, but the gov is to afriad to do anything about it.  Either that or they're bring bribed by Gates...damn i hate him.

coldfusion: yes, they are being bribed:

The US military gets pre-release versions of their OSs (2k/XP were the biggies).

Bill Gates contributes heavily to campaigns he wants to succeed. "Campaign finances" are just a nice way of saying "cash (or otherwise) bribes"
Posted by coldfusion on Jun. 24 2002,22:35
and he donates computers to schools w/ win32 for "education"

So, they are evil for bringing an easy to use GUI into the homes of millions?  Is it wrong for software companies to give pre-release copies of their software to people who want to develop next generation solutions today?  Is it bad that a fine upstanding corporation wants to donate some money to this great country of ours?  Leave MS alone  ...it's those Linux guys  ...they're the real bastards.  They don't offer anything to help our computer illiterate grandmothers, our Army or our countries financial independence  ...they're communists.  Think about it ...REDHat  ...coincidence????

Coincidentally, I have 5 computers in the house. 3 Windows machines, XP and Win2K. 1 running and older Mandrake (all this box does is play mp3s on my stereo) and a G4 Mac.

God bless us, everyone. :D

If they do, then they sure as hell don't use them.

When I got out of the Marine Corps in 1997, we were still using DOS on a Banyan Vines Network.

4 Win2K (Laptop, a Web Server, an MIA Media Server, and an FTP Server)
2 Win98 (desktop and a laptop)
1 Windows  (first edition, running on an old lunchbox computer with a single color display ..basically a clock now)
1 Redhat (an Intel ISP1100 Pizzabox  ...runs some DNS)

I don't know how that Linux box got there  ...damn sneaky bastard!!

And here are some < pics > of the cute little guys.

Am I sitting on the front porch with my banjo, drooling, playing old mc donald?  No.

Not to offend any of the mac zealots here.  I just dont think that one of the major selling points for a computer should be "Hey look at the snazzy new case we designed."  or "this one's better because its clear."

If thats your thing, more power to you.

I donno whols up for what here, but I'm a Windows XP user. Always been a windows user, just because that's what I had. If I had the money, I'd buy a G4 Mac, hands down.

I've just had my new Windows XP machine for not even a week. I crashed it the first time I used it. It lags when I try to make it multi-task (tricky multi-tasking gets it everytime). It frustrates me, I went to hook up Road Runner, it took me 20 minutes to configure it. We were at my friend's house, he has a G4 and is big into Macs but always shows an attempt to like Windows. He kept saying "Yeah, I just plugged mine in..."

I love Apple, I use Macs and school and they're great machines, OSX rocks and thanks to Unix it's very stabble. It's just too bad that Apple has their image as being "trendy computers" they really need to start pushing the fact that OSX is great and all the software is so easy to use.

I don't think it's completely Microsoft's fault that 98% of the people on the internet use Windows, it's the consumer's fault for being ignorant, and naive. They don't want to leave their little windows world. I'm sure, however, if more people used Macs they'd love the feel of it.
Posted by ^Oni^ on Jul. 15 2002,16:45
If Apple would bring their prices down and solicit developer support, more people would own them. I have a G4. I also have 4 pcs.

They aren't JUST trendy. Most digital audio, video and graphic design is done on macs. :)

I bring up old posts to straighten the dumb:

What branch of military would get pre realeased copies of their OS's?  I happen to be a member of the military and let me tell you something sonny.  We do not have pre realeased versions of anything.  Every software that is realeased has to be tested and de-bugged.  we are not allowed to use WinXP yet. or office XP.
So the military is not being bribed.  Yes we use M$ products, but most of the military is behind the techno curve..where I work we don't even have computers with processors faster than 700mhz.

anyways, my 2 cents are spent.
