Please ignore what is going on in the Puce related threads, I'm coming here with my hand extended. Why? I'm a really big nerd. For a living. 
I won't accept geek or dork though.
Geek: Someone who, in traditional sideshows, ate live animals, insects and other revolting things.
Dork: Unnofficial term for a whale's penis.

To be honest, when I hear nerd I think of those horrible '80s campus movies. I'd prefer Geek.
Wasn't it 'Freak' in those sideshows?

There is a book that was published in the 40's called "The Book of Very Special People" that has been sitting on my shelf since my grandfather took it off his. Interesting read.

My boss calls me geek ...I've become used to it.Nerd always reminds me of the pocket protector wearing, taped glasses, flood water pants wearin kinda guys.
I think it depends who's calling me either.

minus stupidI go with geek myself. I see nerds as the no social skills, pocket protector crowd. I see dorks as the people who walk around saying/asking stupid things. (Please, noone jump on that opportunity).

Nobody at my work calls me anything like that. Mostly because I'm a surly bastard and I'm much bigger than they are.
