Try "Pop-Up Stopper". Download it from CNET. There are two versions now, they want $19 to use the pro version.I've been using the free version for quite a while - and it does well. It's a quick download, doesn't eat up resources, and actually works like they say it does. You can also get it from manufacturer. < Link to Panicware's Download Area > edit: You can always try to "ALT-F4" them when they are active. Posted by veistran on May 13 2002,06:06
I use proxomitron, it's pretty easily customized, your browser runs through it like a proxy server. You can update the methods it uses to stop pop-ups (and other annoyances) whenever you come across a pop-up that it misses. You can also use it to limit considerably the information that a website can gather about you, etc. best of all it's free. < http://proxomitron.cjb.net > Posted by editor on May 13 2002,06:31
LOL!This is one of the subjects I was thinking of using for content on Detnet before I ever got Detnet! A few weeks later I figured the subject was m00t with all the people who were/are computer geniuses... < POW popup killer! > Freeware; open POW up, doubleclick on the popup and close the POW window. Never see the popup again, although sites like StileProject can tend to overwhelm it, not that I've ever there. Posted by coldfusion on May 25 2002,20:13
Hell, on Win 98-Me i can stop all pop-ups w/o any extra software.Edit: And it doesn't disable cookies. Posted by Wiley on May 26 2002,01:24
And you get the added bonus of rebooting ever five minutes! Sorry ...I live MS, but WinME sucks ass. Posted by coldfusion on May 26 2002,06:26
Wiley, good argument, but it works well (w/o WinMe problems) on Win98.
