Forum: Geek Forum Topic: Windows XP Activation started by: Beastie Dr Posted by Beastie Dr on Apr. 25 2002,03:41
I have my number. Used once to activate my father's pc. Used once to activate my pc. Two is apparently the maximum, as I just put in a new hd, installed XP, and of course can't verify. Is there:a) a clean crack out there to trash activation or b) a nice story I can tell my local microsoft cocksuck (preferred) Posted by veistran on Apr. 25 2002,04:10
I dunno, I have pro (legal) and I made a "backup" that I patched to corporate version so it doesn't do that crap.

This is XP Pro...any help?

I can send you the files I used... but I only know that they work with the 2600 build.

I don't know any easy way to deactivate the activation. If you're concerned, you can use the corporate codes listed below. They have no imposed limit, so it'll never pester you again. When it asks if you'd like to register online, just select "no" and bypass the option.FCKGW-RHQQ2-YXRKT-8TG6W-2B7Q8 (verified) or DTWB2-VX8WY-FG8R3-X696T-66Y46 (unverified) Posted by Dysorderia on Apr. 25 2002,05:40

I cracked a 2600 build and then one day it just stopped working ...wouldn't let me log in. The crack I was using would actually run during startup and rest the activation to 30 days out ...not very pretty. So I went legit. I still get butterflies in my stomach every time I boot my machine since it contains the only piece of software I have ever legally owned. Posted by just_dave on Apr. 25 2002,22:45
When I bought my laptop it came with a legal copy of XP Home, so I know how you feel wiley.. besides Counter Strike and Unreal Tourney its about the only thing I have bought.. dave Posted by veistran on Apr. 26 2002,00:11
it's not so much a crack as all the files (and where they go) that were different between the corp (no activation) and regular pro versions. Posted by liquid metal on Apr. 26 2002,01:13
back in the betas everyone seemed to have that crack. Posted by RadioActive on Apr. 26 2002,03:45
as far as i know, difference in Pro and Pro Corp lies in the different files supplied with the destribution. I really don't think CD key has anything to do with corp or regular version. Posted by Beastie Dr on Apr. 26 2002,04:09
Anyways, on a strange note:Windows just activated itself when I ran the activation program...I typed NOTHING in. Posted by Rshias on Apr. 26 2002,04:49
... and you would be right. Ignore what I said. Posted by kbreak on Apr. 26 2002,11:33
Rshias, you're not lurking much anymore...Now I'm a member of the XP club. It is more stable. for now, it's still windoze. Posted by RadioActive on Apr. 26 2002,20:39
as far as i see the near future, i will remain a loyal user of microsoft OS, though not only. i would never be able to switch to linux altogether seeing as some of the aplications i use all the time and i've grown attached too run only on Windows. if that was somehow misteriously fixed without the performance loss, i would definately abandom MS altogether. And Lindows is not a solution either from what i heard about it.

160 posts in 2 years with the board is still lurker status. I've cut back on gaming, so posting helps fill the void. Linux can't seriously compete with Windows right now. It just doesn't have the software support. Both are quality products, but that's a serious drawback. IMO, when they're both free: Windows > Linux. If Microsoft were to ever release an OS that couldn't be pirated, it'd be a much tougher decission. Posted by damien_s_lucifer on Apr. 27 2002,01:58
That depends on where it's used. For the average home user, Windows is easier to deal with, there's more applications, and it plays video games. For the business desktop, Sun's servers + thin clients are the best choice IMHO... they can do everything any business would ever need, including compatibility with MS Office documents. And stupid users can't download Bonzi Buddy and waste their time and my time. In the server world, it's all about Solaris, Linux or a BSD distro. All the major server apps (Oracle, DB2 etc.) run on those box0rs, and there is a ton of top-notch free software (sendmail, qmail, BIND, MySQL, Postgres SQL, etc.) These days, you can use a UNIX box0r as your PDC for your pathetic Windoze networks... no more patching your Windows server twice a day! No more blue screens! No more rebooting! Hallelujiah! Posted by veistran on Apr. 27 2002,03:43
solaris is nice. I have a shell on one of the uni solaris box0rs.

Aye, I was primarily talking about this portion of the market since it affects the largest number of people. In the professional workplace, and server market, Linux competes well. It's nearly a god-send for the admins. Posted by incubus on Apr. 28 2002,00:51
im posting from linux now. my windows partition died, so im in linux til i decide which version of windows i should install. to play games editor: my damn parcel got returned! linux does everything I want _except_ games. I have everything I need, i even watch dvds on my tv with it. i've had counterstrike working under linux too, but to be honest, its not worth the fucking about, ill stick with windows for games for now, even if CS was faster in linux! Oh, and I can't make my -fucking- webcam work lol |
