I dunno  ...do you have a dual headed video card?  I use the Matrox G450 at work for the two monitors on my desk and I have a quad monitor matrox out on the trading floor.  They're only really good if you are refrencing one screen while working in another.

The best dual-head setup is NVIDIA TwinView... It uses a single large framebuffer that splits across two video outputs. This is much better than having 2 separate video cards, because you get full Direct* and OpenGL acceleration on both heads. (too bad TwinView isn't available on more of their high-end cards...)

huh? I thought WGL Didn't support multiple monitors?

Im thinking of going the dual-monitor route as well... 2 monitors is kind of a necessity for coding and stuff so i reckon it's time i caught up with the rest of the world. Thing is, i dont know enought about graphics cards to decide which one to buy. i'd like to keep it to a single dualhead/twinview card, rather than putting in a 2nd card (mostly due to a limited budget :( )
what do u guys suggest? let it be known that i am not really the gaming type, so i don't need the latest and greatest, but i do want something that will be able to handle the odd 3d game or so if i do decide to play... however, since this isnt going to be the primary purpose of the card, i dont mind having less-than-the-ultimate gameplay. with the current Rand/Dollar exchange, i guess my budget is looking at about $150.
suggestions?

i have no need to get dual monitor support. it just looks cool. i have a radeon 8500... it does what i want it to do, lets me put different windows in different monitors.

whee
sorry for digging this topic up again, but i've narrowed my choice of video cards down to the following:
< Radeon 7500LE >
and
< GeForce2 MX Twinview >
They both seem pretty decent, bearing in mind that its not for gaming, but just for the convenience of having 2 monitors
which of the 2 seems better? or any other suggestions?

there's a geforce 4 mx with dual monitor support from visiontek, but it's ~$120US

Definitely choose the Geforce over the ATI card; ATI seems unable to produce stable drivers...

Beware that the "Geforce 4 MX" is really a speed-bumped GF3; if you are serious about the GF4 then avoid any of the "MX" series products.

heh, ATI never has been able to release good drivers in a timely fashion. and yeah, eo is quite correct, the geforce 4 mx is directx 7 product, not a directx 8 product like the rest of the gf4's. so while it won't be giving you all the ultra cool goodies, it will still be giving you a lot more than the gf2 mx. it depends on what you want to use the card for and how long you want to use the card for. Still, one of the boxes I use quite regularly works well enough with it's cheap old TNT2.
