"implemented to prevent excessive traffic use"fuck that. is there a way to get dial up networking to auto redial after say a 5 second wait when i get kicked off every 2 hours. i'd like to leave it running over night so i dont have to sit at the cmputer all the time or have to get off so my mates can use the internet. is there a script or prog that can do this? i'm on 56k. you tell me how a fucking isp cant handle that for gods sake grr Posted by liquid metal on Apr. 14 2002,03:41
here's a good solution: get dsl or cable or hell even aol. they don't always kick you off after 2 hrs. Posted by Necromancer on Apr. 14 2002,05:38

No cut-offs (but we tell you how much we expect you to be online - we price our products in a sustainable way). 250MB webspace. Perl 5, PHP4, MySQL, Fax-2-email, unlimited POP3 addresses, domain hosting, an included .co.uk domain name, 24/7 local rate tech support. We rock. Posted by veistran on Apr. 15 2002,06:50

Most versions of Windows DUN come with an option to 'redial if connection is lost' or 'always try to keep connection active' such that any time your modem detects a dialtone on the line, it'll redial. So, if you are using Windows, check those options on DUN or your modem settings in the control panel. Yep, what Kuru said. There's an option in most copies of windows to redial if connection is lost. You should be able to fiddle with it either in control panel, or in network connections.I suffer from the same problem, except on a 4 hour disconnect. If you call and talk to the owners, you can sometimes get them to lift the option from your account. The best argument for this is to claim to have a satelite internet connection. Because you're forced to maintain a dial-up service for uploads, the disconnect would be the limiting factor in an otherwise 24/7 connection. Plea that case. Some ISP's are willing to work something out with you, providing you play your cards right. It might be worth a shot if no other ISP options are available. Posted by just_dave on Apr. 15 2002,23:49
There is also a program called DUNCE, or Dial Up Network Connection Enhancer. It allows you to do just that, redial if the line is dropped, you can make it dial and disconnect at certain times, and even have it run programs when it connects. Its fun to play with, search for it at CNET or Tucows. It's called DUNCE.dave Posted by Necromancer on Apr. 15 2002,23:53
where abouts i remember it coming up automatically once in win98 but i've never been able to find it manually in that or 98Se i got SE runnning now and that doesnt even ask me. It's just really pissing me off.Cheers incubus i'll check it out i've been looking for a good 24/7 isp for the holidays anywayz 08whatever.com gave you 7.0 which is damn good. Thanks again for the advice (u corporate whore ) Posted by Jimi on Apr. 19 2002,12:10
In the control panel, go to internet properties and select the connections tab, click on your desired connection (the one with the 2hour cut off) and click on settings just to the right. This brings up a new config panel, now click the advanced button in the bottom right corner and voila, theres your options. This is how mine is set up and it works like a charm. Posted by incubus on Apr. 20 2002,05:28
I'm not a corporate whore, I just like the place I work. I'll leave the whoring to wiley. Do you live in your own place or in halls? If you live in your own place, get ADSL ... it's cheaper now ... My work addy is mike@plus.net.uk if you need any advice. Cheers Mike Posted by Necromancer on Apr. 20 2002,22:59
I killed two birds with one stone. I plonked win2k on and that does it for you plus seeing as hidden and dangerous works on it (surprising really considering how old the game is) i got rid of 98 all together.
