ok, can someone suggest to me how i could have possibly fucked up a ram chip without touching it, or doing anything obviously stupid like quickly cycling the power on the computer?comp has been acting shitty a little ever since installing new vid card, but i figured it was just that i needed to clean install windows with new drivers etc.... but on a whim i ran a ram diagnostic util. and found bad bits in the ram. WTF?! i know these two chips were good when i went nuts a while back checking all the ram chips....... could i have somehow damaged one of the chips while installing the vid card?! I dunno ..that's a tough one. I check my tires last week and they were fine. I went driving around for a bit and now when I check the tires one of them is flat ...do you think I could have done something to it while I was driving around?? Wow ...the freaking mysteries of the universe. Posted by veistran on Apr. 12 2002,17:11
WTF are you talking about! Thing's don't wear out! They are always just fine as long as you use them as the directions tell you! </sarcasm>

hahaha.the fact that the chip(s) might have worn out hasn't escaped me, but they're both less that 6 months old. they should last longer than that shouldn't they? Posted by veistran on Apr. 13 2002,04:22
well, if it's cheap-o generic memory, who's to say how long or short it will last.

Yeah, they shouldn't really wear out ...there's no moving parts. But RAM is subject to a cruel death by power surges, static, heat and lots of other nasties that live inside your b0x0r. Just let it go ...it was some good RAM and served it's user well. Speaking of RAM serving his user, I just watched TRON for about the 100th time. That is the best damn movie (short of the collective works of Kobe Tai) ever made. Posted by editor on Apr. 13 2002,06:43
If I say my copy of Tron is on SVHS, will anyone know what that means?

is that like betamax?tron was a good movie. unfortunately, the last time i saw it was so long ago i don't remember much of it. i seem to recal some scene at the end where the main character is fighting with the hard drive or some shit...? those old 2MB HDs really were fucking huge weren't they? Yeah, I know what you mean. /me, however, just bought the 20th anniversary DVD a couple of weeks ago. *drool* Posted by Wiley on Apr. 17 2002,18:11
They did a good job remastering the sound on the DVD. And the visuals (for the most part) still holds up after 20 years. They were actually fighting a program (Master Control) at the end of the movie. Tron and Ram were in fact programs as well. The story is that the programs are entities that humans (users) create and who live iside the world of the computer. Master Control forces these programs to fight eachother to the death. It's a story of creationism, oppression, abuse of power and bitchin light-cycles. Posted by Necromancer on Apr. 17 2002,19:08
anyone played the halflife mod of the tron light cycle battle?i coundlt get the damn thing to work for me |
