I want to upgrade my mobo so I can get ddr ram.  Right now I have an amd xp 1600. what is a good motherboard to get right now? also, will the next generation of amd cpu's use the same type of motherboard, or should I hold off upgrading for a few months?

hell no ...that would make it easy to upgrade.  Those days are over.  Now you need an entire new PC everytime you want an upgrade. Just when you think you are on top of the ball there is new faster RAM ...faster DMA Hard drives ..a new processor socket/slot/card and faster bus lines.  I wouldn't even begin to tell you what kind of Motherboard to get.  It's a loose loose proposition. I'd just pick one that you've heard of before ...like Asus and get their highest end board that they have to support your processor  ...hopefully everything on it might not be obsoleate by the time you get it home.

no it can't.

Anyway, i can only gues that it will require a new mobo, since its gonna be 64bit.  It will be backwards-compatable with 16/32 bit applications, but i don't see how it could be backwards compatable with a 32bit based mobo chipset.  Probably gonna make new ram for it soon too.
