Can someone suggest to me a good utility for testing ram? preferably dos based, and prefferably freeware/non-cripple-shareware.I think maybe the one i got installed is bad, pluss i need to test like 3 others. Thanks. Posted by BlackFlag on Feb. 19 2002,16:50
nevermind, found one. simtel.net rox.results: 256 chip already installed was fine. 128 chip that was sitting around cause it was questionable was fine. Installed it. other 256 chip was identified as the culprit in the "crash and burn" incident i ranted about. system wouldn't even post with a 64 chip i had sitting around. < Gold Memory >The readme file even kicks ass! told me how to boot into pure dos without a boot disk!! (hold down ctrl while booting to get boot promp, then hit shift-f5) Posted by ASCIIMan on Feb. 20 2002,02:09
< Here's another one. > It's free (gnu) too, and can test more thoroughly than Gold Memory, for errors that only show up with certain bit patterns or changes in adjacent memory cells.

tried that one, couldn't get it to work. When i booted from the startup disk it made, a bunch of 2 digit hex numbers (one per line) scrolled really friggen fast, and the pc speaker kept beeping. the help file said something about it being a disk error that causes that. never could get that prog to work. yeah, you probably need a new floppy. Could be some bad block on the floppy that windows usually maps around.
