why the fuck do i have to supply my ident on irc when i iwant to visit #detnet! well excuse me mr internet for not wanting to give away a major security vuinerability thank you very much! i got banned today cos i tried to configure it with my firewall. grr i could hit someone! EXPLAIN TO ME SOMEONE!

DKB it's just the way EFnet works, it sucks but EFnet is better than undernet.

just get your firewall to let port 113 to pass through then get a client that has something along the lines of "enable ident" and it'll be fine. they say it's for security reasons, but it's so damned easy to fake a ident...

do i need to let port 113 open for both incoming and outgoing? anythign else i might need to kow? its mirc32 or is there a better client out there?EDIT: hmm requiring 113 to be open for security reasons? isnt that a bit of a contradiction in terms?

there's a LOT of better clients 
bersirc's good, xircon's nice, and there's a few others. forgot the webpages for them, though.it's just incoming that has to be open, no outgoing

why not just drop efnet and go with webnet?I rarely EVER see a netsplit on webnet, and it isn't a fucking jerk about letting you connect.
