I'm about to rebuild my machine, and add in a new hd in the process. Here's what I have:30G (7200 rpm)
8.5 G (5400)
3 G (5400)
All drives will be formatted with NTFS, unless I hear a really good reason why I shouldn't.
Now, my question is this: should each drive have one max size partition, or do you think I should split up one or more of 'em? Should I even bother installing the 3 G? For reference, this machine is used for some lightweight office-related stuff, and some occasional gaming.

matters what you want do with each drive. I'd guess one is for all the system stuff, and the bigger one is for mp3's, porn, divx, other person files. If so, I don't really see the point in the 3, and maybe to up the 8 to around 10. otherwise, you should be fine.

If it's primarily for business, install the 30 gig as your primary drive. Partition a 20 gig section to use for business applications. Leave the remaining 10 gigs for game installs.Use the 8.5 gig as a single partition that will serve as a data-drive for business aps.
The 3 gig would work great as a "backup drive" for important files just in case something happens to your primary 30 gig.
Be sure that you keep the 30 gig on a seperate IDE channel than the other two drives that way you don't negate it's performance bonus.

Rshias gives good advice.The only reason to use FAT/FAT32 is for compatibility with DOS/Windows 9x.
Linux would be a good use for that 3GB
