Forum: Geek Forum Topic: weird monitor flickering started by: CatKnight Posted by CatKnight on Jan. 04 2002,06:14
I used to see this weird horizontal wavy pattern that would move down or up the screen, often changing directions. it wasn't refresh, it was a random wavy thingy. I first noticed it with my old monitor when I first got to school last year. I thought it was due to poor AC jacks. Then I noticed it at home too. Then I thought it was magnetic interference due to speakers or whatever. Then I got back to school, moved speakers around, still saw it. I thought my monitor was damaged, so just ignored it for a while. Now I have my new LCD monitor, and I still see it at certain resolutions and refresh rates. It obviously isn't vibrations or magnetic interference. I am thinking it has something to do with my video card, but I have no clue as to what. Anyone have any insights on this? On my LCD, I never see it at the native resolution (1280x1024 @ 60), but I do see it at 1024x768 @ 60. I also see a very odd moire effect in certain colors (dark greys) that gets worse when I raise the refresh rate at any resolution. I think that is an unrelated issue with my LCD though.

atmospheric interferance caused by air convection reflecting off the screen. either that or you're room is next to some over head power cables
