ok, I'm looking for a few new shell acounts.  I need one BG process, to run a bot, around 10-15MB's disk quota, and a stable/fast system.  I know this rules out "free" shell accounts (although they do exist, I know they suck mostly).  I'm willing to pay a little bit, but preferably one of these "lifetime donation" things.  If anyone knows of a good host that has a account like this, please reply.  or, if you run a little linux server and want a few bucks and wouldn't mind helping me out, reply.  Note, I'm really big on this "stability" thing...

thanks a lot if you can help out! :)

edit: unix systems, too.  linux, open/freebsd, along those lines.

The coolest thing about this detnet forum is that I donīt have the faintest idea what you are talking about

Sypdir, I run a tiny linux server. If your BG process doesn't do anything illegal, hit me up at aventari_@hotmail.com

yah, next thing you know running an eggdrop will be terroristic!

they've been getting a lot of blame lately for stupid stuff.  people will crack some system somewhere, drop a eggdrop on it, and have it send credit card #'s out to IRC channels.  They're being linked to DoS attacks and shit because of that.  It pisses me off.  All I want to do, and atleast 95% of eggdrop users also, is have a nice bot somewhere to sit in a irc channel for me and op me when I join, and to keep the channel mine. I've only participated in 2 hostile channel take overs, and both were just to prove to the people that did own the channel it could be done.  I gave them back right away.

So yeah.  That's my eggdrop rant for the day :)

I've had an account for a while with a provider in Toronto.  They're called canadian.net and it's a small business, stable, friendly, and even offer cool vhosts for the serious ircer.  The ip is 216.123.178.5, or check the website < here >.  They *say* the max bg processes you can run is 2, but I've gotten away with running an ircd, eggdrop, screen and bx before for months with no complaints.
