Forum: Geek Forum Topic: Conflicts? started by: beuges Posted by beuges on May 12 2001,19:25
Hi, this may appear to be a daft question, but, here goes:Both my internal modem and onboard soundcard use IRQ 9. Is this good? or is it bad? Windows says there's no conflicts, cos they're not on the same IO range or whatever, but I've noticed that I get disconnected from the net more often when I use winamp than when I don't. Is it cos my soundcard is conflicting with my modem somehow, or just that I've got a crappy connection? Posted by L33T_h4x0r_d00d on May 12 2001,23:41
Windows 95 osr2 and above (98,me,2k) have a feature called "IRQ holder for pci steering". In basic terms windows is creating a device that breaks the irq into however many subirqs are required. Its a software solution to the hardware limitation of x86 machines.------------------ SSBAIBAEDW YHENNYNIIA FO.AV..GCL 0U.LA..HKR NL.LD..TEU .D.YE...DS ....D..... it pisses me off too, like right now on irq 11 theres my nic card, my hpt370 hard drive controller, the sound card, and the tv tuner card, and i'm too lazy to mess with it.------------------ Posted by ASCIIMan on May 14 2001,06:01
If you don't like your devices sharing IRQs, don't install Win2K with ACPI enabled.Everything = IRQ 11. Posted by damien_s_lucifer on May 14 2001,18:44

No Intel... I've got a Gigabyte 7ZXR with an Athlone 1GHz processor, and 384MB of RAM. I just thought I'd brag about that. You'd think that with a kick-ass system like that, I'd actually know better. I'm gonna try changing the IRQ settings for my sound-card (duh, why didn't I try that to start with?) and see if that helps any. I still think it's my crappy internet connection tho
