Time was kept since its birth in seconds.
Anno UNIXorum (mad Latin skillz).
It died for your sins.
And today the seconds rolled over 1 billion.
I was there with my time() function. (Jeeze, i'm mind-bogglingly cool)
There were 1 Billion seconds parties tonight.
Yay.

another interesting fact... in 2032 i think, the time value of seconds since the epoch will no longer fit in a 16 bit integer value! so by then the world's unix boxen will need to have adapted to use a 32 bit number for the time value.

Close... it'll actually overflow the 32-bit value being used now and unices will have to be adapted to use a 64-bit value.
