Mistumi CR4804TE - the world's BEST FUCKING BURNERThis burner kicks ass. I can 1-to-1 copy ANYTHING, even PSX/PS2 CDs, it writes subchannel data, and get this - it's the ONLY burner out that supports 99 minute CDs! I can cram 876MB of data onto a disc! And the kicker - it's ๗ USD. < GO GET ONE! > (Edit - Found a better price. Dear lord, I'm a fucking geek.) Actully, I'm looking to buy a burner (got funding, woo) soon. (Read as: Right goddamn now)Any suggestions? ------------------ Posted by damien_s_lucifer on Aug. 15 2001,16:21
yeah, mitsumi owns j00. They last forever, too. What's the write speed on that burner? I think I may have just bought the same one - don't remember the model no (and I ain't at home) but it's an 8x4x32 Mitsumi. Posted by cr0bar on Aug. 15 2001,21:28

Is it only this one cd burner that can go up to 99?
Posted by The_Stomper on Aug. 16 2001,03:11
The only consumer-level burner anyways. If you want to fork out several grand for a professional duplication system, then sure you can make 99 minute CDs. But until then, Mistumi 0wnz j00r Plextors. I don't write at anything above 4X anyways. I prefer my discs slower and error-free, rather than Plextor-style.
quote: Fucking right. A friend of mine has a Yamaha 8824 SCSI - and he can't even write subchannel data. What a lam3wh0r3! Posted by damien_s_lucifer on Aug. 16 2001,04:16
I let my burner write at full 8X speed for data - but for audio, it's all about 4X, 2X, or even 1X. The slower you burn audio, the better regular CD players stay on track.

I personally have never been able to burn audio at 16x. It just fucks up too much. Stupid Yamaha...------------------ Posted by Dark Knight Bob on Aug. 16 2001,19:35
i prefer to think of plextors as cd-r's that last for ever. who needs to buy a new one when plextors last a liftime anywayz.------------------ quote: < Where's your self re-cocking-spect > Posted by damien_s_lucifer on Aug. 16 2001,19:48
demonk - I've had nothing BUT problems with audio written at 8x and higher on a variety of burners. Apparently it has to do with the way the pits are shaped at higher speeds. Some audio CD players get confused by them, especially the one in my car
Posted by demonk on Aug. 16 2001,20:13
Never had that problem. I'm only able to burn at 12x since my media is only rated at 12x. And the audio CD's I produce play just fine in my computer CD-ROM, my mother's 3-CD changer home stereo system, and her 6-CD changer car stereo in her 1996 Ford Explorer. Only thing I could say then would be 1) you have a crapyer burner/media combo Either one, the only way to fix it is to spend money, or burn the audio CDs at slower speeds ------------------ This message has been edited by demonk on August 17, 2001 at 03:13 PM Posted by demonk on Aug. 17 2001,05:45
I have NEVER seen a difference between CD's produced on my 2x burner and my mother's 16x TDK (yes, I know, I'm trying to figure out some way of swapping with her). Have you guys just had bad experiences with 8x+ CD burners in the past, or are you just jealous of other's who have faster burners, so your trying to justify staying with your older, slower drives?------------------ Posted by Rhydant on Aug. 17 2001,06:16
quote: wait wait wait... are there even disc taht can support 876MBs?!!?!? the best ones i see on the shelf are 700 mb discs... i think youre lying... ------------------ Posted by LinkDJ on Aug. 17 2001,21:02
You think whatever you want, but my Plextor PlexWriter 16/10/40A kicks your ass. Literally.------------------ Posted by damien_s_lucifer on Aug. 17 2001,23:03
<flame class="mild">demonk, I *know* it's a problem with crappy CD players. My CD-ROM drives play audio CD-R's just fine. But a lot of CD players will either a. skip easier, or 2. have lots of blips in the audio with CD's burned at higher speeds. I've tried it on a bunch of different burners (including Plextor, you freaks - I never said I didn't like Plextor!!! I just like Mitsumi also!) and this is a problem with ALL of them. What am I supposed to do, ask all my friends to buy better CD players just so I can burn them CDs at 16x??? So what media have y'all tried? I usually buy whatever's on sale as long as it's name brand. Except 3M / Imation - every audio CD I've ever tried that was burned on that media WILL NOT play in my car's CD player. OK, one point for Plextors. But compare the cost of a PlexWriter and Plextor CDrom to a Mitsumi.
Posted by demonk on Aug. 19 2001,12:46
Does the Mitsumi have Burn-Proof? I've seen CD burners with the tech burn CDs perfectly while the hard drive was being defraged. So it's a good tech I'm not accusing Mitsumi of anything, just want to know if they have Burn-Proof or equivelant.------------------ Posted by Dysorderia on Aug. 19 2001,13:00

quote: Nope. No burn-proof on Mistumis. My old 1GB HD works quite well for burnproofing though. Prewrite an image to there, and I can play Max Payne while I'm burning.

I'm curious how many regular CD-ROM drives will read a 99-minute CD. Otherwise, you're limited to just using them on your own system.------------------ Posted by damien_s_lucifer on Aug. 20 2001,05:14
quote: Definately. Thought I usually set up my rips to come out between 1.2 and 1.4GB - a two CD set. I burn this out to CD for archiving, and then use Virtualdub to recompress the large file to around 700MB. Hmm, I think it's time to start a new thread just for Divx... is it the 4804 or the 4805 that burns 99 minute cd's? or is it both------------------ Posted by incubus on Sep. 06 2001,10:05
