Here is a question I have, why doesn’t the computer manufacturing industry make IDE cable that doesn’t start falling apart when you move it around a lot. Has anyone else gotten bad IDE cable, or had some go bad? IDE cable sucks, if i had the money i would use SCSI.------------------ Posted by askheaves on Apr. 01 2001,22:24
If it were feasible, I'd build an entire computer out of USB 2.0 channels and wireless links. Screw this 40 - 80 wire connector crap.

That would fucking RULE!------------------ Posted by DuSTman on Apr. 01 2001,22:43
There's a project underway to move IDE to a serial based link, which would require a much thinner wire, < www.serialATA.org > But yes, having all the disks connected up via USB2 would fucking rock. Posted by Sithiee on Apr. 01 2001,23:24
you can also thin your ide cables, cut in like groups of 5, stack, and tape. its now thin.

Two words: Fibre Channel. Possibly the most kick-ass interface ever developed. Way cooler than SCSI. And yes, you can locate the actual drives 5km away from you computer (if that's the kind of thing you're into).
