Are there any alternatives to the one incuded with windows? I need something that can defrag a 30gig hard drive with a about 20gigs of information on it as fast as possible. There seems to be some sort of new defragmenter that comes with XP, but it takes forever. It ran for about 8 hours and it wasn't even half done. I have also tried Norton Utilities 2000 defragmenter and I found it to be even worse then the one that came with Windows.
Any sudjestions?

Back up your important shit to CD, format, reinstall. It's the best way.

If you can't do that, buy another 30-gig drive, reinstall a new o/s onto there, then copy ur important shit across as you need it.

A really good idea is to install your OS to a partition just large enough to contain it, then put all your programs and other data on other partitions. This will also cut down on the actual amount of stuff you actually have to defrag.

One of the reasons a defrag can take so long is that when any program writes to the hard drive, for whatever reason, it has to start over.
