i seem to have this problem when downloading the odd high filesized div x file. everynow and then the picture will freeze but the sound will keep playing and i have to manually move the slider bar to reinitialize the feed. now i dont want to know why this happens as i have a good enough idea as it is. all i want to know is if theres a way of fixing it. do i have to re-encode the whole thing to get rid of it or is there some way of configuring WMP to stop this fuck up in someway------------------ Posted by Observer on Dec. 05 2001,14:15
Two questions:1) Your machine specs? 2) Which version of the codec are you using? ------------------ Posted by CatKnight on Dec. 05 2001,15:29
it's due to bad encoding. nothing you can do about it, afaik.

Run it through Virtualdub, direct stream copy for audio and video. Should fix it up real quick.

I had that problem a lot with the old codecs. Grab the latest codec from < www.divx.com > and answer "Yes" when it asks if you want to play old files with the new codec.cr0bar's solutions is also interesting. I've never tried it but it sounds reasonable. Posted by Dark Knight Bob on Dec. 07 2001,14:48
see i did that a while back but some of the old ones wouldnt play any sound with the new codec so i d/l one that did both named kosec? kris... whatever anywyaz i've had this problem before with all the codecs i've tried anywyaz i just wanted to see if rencoding them would help...still havent had the time to reencode a 100mb file yet cos i actually want to use my pc while doing it.------------------ Posted by damien_s_lucifer on Dec. 08 2001,17:24
if you're running NT/2K/XP, you can start the encode and then use Task Manager to drop the encoder's priority to "low". You won't even notice that the encoder is running... you can even play games.

Bah. You and your weak systems.I encode DivX4.11 files, while burning CDs, and playing Counter-Strike at 60fps. Thank god XP knows how to effectively toss around processor threads and a half-gig of DDR. Posted by Dark Knight Bob on Dec. 11 2001,22:44
