everytime i check reviews at download.com for programs such as audiogalaxy or new file sharing programs, it always gives warnings for programs that contain 'spyware' i know adaware removes spyware from your system but is it really that bad and a risk of giving away personal info? it also will say that uninstalling can fuck0r up your system and your internet explorer and leave them useless unless you reinstall windows. has anybody had these problems or know about spyware?
edit: and im not asking for opinions on if audiogalaxy is good or not. im just asking about all the warnings i see

spyware only gives away your browsing habits normally.

this can include

which pages you visit
what you download

it will not

send personal files off to microsoft
find out your name and address from files on your computer and send them somewhere

if you are unsure if a piece of software is giving away your personal information, go to the author's website and view his privacy software.

a while ago I installed some program, and never used it, so I uninstalled it... now i can't open up half my programs because I keep getting some bitch ass thing about MSVCRT.DLL (MS Virtual C Run Time, I know)... I installed 8 different programs that should have replaced the MSVCRT.DLL, but still the same problem.... search the registery, but I don't know enough about registery hacking to really figure out if the problem's in there...

I'd hate to have the reinstall...

why this story? The program had spyware in it. Who knows...

Sounds like who ever wrote that uninstall program was a first year programer who knew nothing about programs and/or windows. That uninstall program probably killed that file, which is should never do, at least not without asking. Those other programs you installed are good little programs, they know not to overwrite a system level file such as that. Best I can give you is to try and reinstall that old program, try and grab a copy of that file and put it somewhere safe, uninstall, the copy your backup back over. Of course, this could just fuck up your computer even more. But you'd have to reinstall Windows anyway.

Why don't you just extract that file out from your Windows .cab files? That would be a lot easier than reinstalling everything...

somebody tell me what cab it's in, I'd be happy too...

I'll probably end up just reinstalling doze if I get bored. I'm just to damned lazy to do it unless I'm bored enough.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR YOU

delete that dll
install software to replace it

You see, most installers won't replace it if it exists.

tried that... I think...

I'm pretty unleanered about SpyWare. Could somebody list some programs that have spyware, or suggest a site that has some listed?

my e-mail - kixzor@hotmail.com

It's just that methinks I may have some slowing down my net connection.

I have DopeWars, and I don't get the Gator thing, I can remember unchecking some boxes for it, or something.

But yeah, Does RealPlayer have bad Spyware, and is it true that Microsoft scans your hard drive if you go anywhere near their site?

It's not spyware, it's... CODE RED! *crowd gasps*

Really though, almost anything you download with spyware says it somewhere in the little "agreement" thing. You probably don't wanna read all that, but I know for a fact DopeWars for windows has that Gator thing, and it pissed me the fuck off! Kept popping up everytime i did anything...

uninstalling kazaa won't make the difference. The spyware will still be there.
