Help me please!! I used partition magic to partition my 60GB hard drive and made 1 20 gig partition which was fine. I then wanted to install Win98SE on another partition and dual boot, because winME is such an asshole. After following the instructions of Partition Magic I used the wizard to make another primary partition of 5GB and set it to active so i could install Win98SE. Now after installing Win98 the computer booted up fine, but it set the other partition with ME to hidden so i couldn't see any of the files. Since partition magic was on that part of the drive i had to use Fdisk.exe to change the active partition back to the original WinME one. I got the WinME boot screen but for some reason the computer kept booting into Win98. After ages of trying to get it to boot into the 35 gig partition i decided to format the Win98 drive and delete the partition. After doing so, i now can't boot into any partition on my drive, the computer just wont pick it up. There is no logical drives on my disk. I don't know what to do!!! I suggest you just start over.1. Turn on the computer. When the message Starting MS-DOS® appears press [F5]. If you are using Windows® 95, when the message Starting Windows 95 appears press [F8]. Then select Command Prompt Only. 2. At the DOS command prompt, type the following: debug [Enter] NOTE: Type the following bolded text only. You will receive an error if you type anything other than the bold text. The non-bolded text represents what will appear on your screen once you press [Enter] after typing each command. -F 200 L1000 0 [Enter] NOTE: ( -- "80" for hd 0, "81" for hd 1 ) xxxx:010C INT 13Enter]

The comp doesn't say "starting windows98" because it wont boot at all off the hard drive. It stops at saying "verifying DMI pool data" or something. If i was to copy debug.exe to the boot disk, would this method work?

Yup. Worked for me just last night. Man, you really screwed your hard drive up!

all of that isn't nessicary. just make a boot disk, and fdisk it then format. fdisk to del all the partitions then make a new one, then format and install windows2000 or 98, me is just a sorry ass os

#include /usr/local/winme_suxIf you're going to try to dual boot 98/2K, make sure you install 98 first on the C partition, then pop in the 2K cd...it'll give you the option to make a fresh install (put it on the D partition) and will automatically set up the OS loader (similar to LILO in linux) ------------------ Posted by Blowgoats on Aug. 08 2001,16:15
I say you start from scratch and do a low level format. Then after that get a copy of Symantec's GDisk. It's a little harder than Partition Fuck Up, but it works 10 times better. As for the dual-boot shit, that's not my department.------------------ This message has been edited by Blowgoats on August 09, 2001 at 01:28 PM |
