Forum: Geek Forum Topic: *@!#$\%&!@#*$& RIPPED CLICKS!!! CD Ripper Wanted... started by: PersonGuy Posted by PersonGuy on Jul. 16 2001,13:52
For one of the first times ever, I wanted to rip some CDs to WAV format. I knew RealJuke Box could do this, so I gave it a try. It ripped at 10X but the quality was SHIT! So I try using the error correction option. It started at 1X at firt and then went up to 8X. The first part of the song sounded fine, but in the parts it tipped at a faster speed it, again, sounded like a turntable in an earthquake. So anyway, I went online for some other programs and couldn't find anything that worked very well. Where can I find a good CD -> WAV ripper that will either allow you to rip at 1X for max quility OR has a decent error correction system. THANKS! ------------------ Posted by Jynx on Jul. 16 2001,14:08
< MusicMatch Jukebox >. Works well for me--allows single-pass or multi-pass, good error correction, and my rips have always sounded pretty good. ------------------ I used to be a kleptomanicac, but I took something for it. Posted by Observer on Jul. 16 2001,15:07
And for those who are really picky about their rips, EAC. < http://www.exactaudiocopy.de > ------------------ Posted by Spydir on Jul. 16 2001,18:03
cdparanoia always works for me. I dunno if there's a windows port.------------------ Posted by PersonGuy on Jul. 18 2001,00:40

I used cdex to rip a couple cd's I got the other day, and it's pretty good. I found it on download.com, too.------------------ Posted by CatKnight on Jul. 18 2001,11:16
all of you fools need to read < www.r3mix.net > right now. musicmatch? BLARG!

MusicMatch is a PIECE O SHIT.AudioGrabber, 1.82, with LAME enc 1.88 DLL, at High Quality, Stereo (not Joint cuz that doesn't make true rips like ppl think), and 192kbps, no copyright, no crc, none of that. Rip all tracks to HD first in wave file, then encode into MP3 after. Using a decent CD-ROM drive helps too. Posted by RenegadeSnark on Jul. 18 2001,15:53
cdparanoia is god. In fact, this bullshit they're saying about how CD's will now be designed to introduce ripper errors will prolly make no difference in CD Paranoia.

Creative's Audio Center works well enough for me. I've ripped a CD, then burned it again and it's sounds all the same.------------------ Posted by CatKnight on Jul. 19 2001,05:43
actually the best method for ripping cd quality mp3s at the smallest size is lame vbr 2 with a lowpass at like 19, joint stereo. indistinguishable from cd audio and very small file size. the average bit rate ends up being around 140 kpbs but it sounds better then an mp3 encoded with musicmatch at 320 kbps. if you want ARCHIVAL quality, use 256 ABR with stereo.
