ME is just as bad as 98win2k definately will get rid of most crashes you would otherwise have with ME or 98. I am currently running beta XP, and i like it. I would wait until the actual version comes out, in october i beleive. Or if u really don't want to wait u can either get the beta XP, or win2k. Also if you do choose 2000, go with professional. I don't think you need a server or a personal one, so professional will be your best choice. As far as i know, hard drives do not require any drivers and cd burner drivers are usually included with the system, especially Windows 2000/XP. I don't think you will run into too many probelms. Perhaps a few programs not running properly under win2k, but that is a rare occurence. Never had any problems with my drivers or anything else. And I reinstall XP at least once a month (once new beta comes out), I have also installed 2000 professional and advanced server and never had any major problems. yeah i could get 2k, but i didnt know if id run into problems like you said, about programs that only run on 95/98. thanks for the advice Posted by Sithiee on Jul. 09 2001,00:38
i dont know where all these people are getting the idea that me is as bad as 98, it runs so much better than 98 does (at least in my experience) it crashes about 1/100 of the times that 98 did, and it works a lot better. my only real beef with it is that they tried to replace my trusty cd player with windows media player. but i beat the smarmy bastards.------------------ quote: Posted by damien_s_lucifer on Jul. 09 2001,03:22
Your experience with ME is unusual, Sith. I agree with you that apps crash less often, but my install ate itself after about a month. At my old job, fixing machines that were running ME was a nightmare... imagine having multiple drivers installed that not only don't work with ME, they don't KNOW that they don't work with it - so they load, and things seem to work until you try and do something "unusual" - open "My Computer," for example.Windows ME - Which Blue Screen Will You See Today?™ Posted by The_Stomper on Jul. 09 2001,11:13
Very true, DSL. Apps under ME seemed to crash less often and less hard, but there were driver issues out the ass. God forbid you should try any hardware that doesn't know what ME is. One incompatible driver and ME went apeshit. At least the damn system got a virus so now I have an excuse to wipe it & throw 98SE back on there. Serves my dad right for not updating his VDFs. Maybe I'll just sell the parts & have him buy a Dell. ------------------ Posted by ic0n0 on Jul. 09 2001,12:55
I was running ME for about 5 months but when i put in another hd i went to win2kpro, i have more issues with win2k than with ME by far, win2k never ever crashs but i would give it up if my vid drivers worked corectly i my geforce2gts has vid out on it and ELSA never made drivers for win2k that support it, the nvida drivers don't work etheir for vid out, both work in geniral but the vid. I have has some combatabillity issues with some of my older software in win2k that i didn't get in ME.------------------ Posted by kornalldaway on Jul. 09 2001,13:15
i am still running ME on my old computer because it doesn't have enough resources to run win2k properly. It does crash less often then 98, but still does so a hell of alot. I have numerous problems with ATI video drivers and cd burning software. I often get bleu screens and other kinds of system errors. Overall I would go with win2k because it hardly ever crashed on me. Only time win2k was goin' all nuts on me is when I tried many programs at once with tons of services running it Advanced Server. But if you have professional, it shouldn't be all too bad.

WinME went nuts after I tried to install the newest Logitech MouseWare... For some reason, it corrupted the mouse and keyboard control panel extensions, and every time I opened up the control panel, the thing would tell me about some error in main.cpl. !@#$\%^&*. I extract original copy of installation disk, but the damn thing kept doing it. So I think to myself, "Why don't I just reinstall ME?" Good idea, right? NO! The installer crashes. WTF?!?So basically, install all your drivers and shit in 98SE and then upgrade to ME... and don't install drivers. Then you should be okay. I'm trying to get Win2k and upgrade from 98SE because I'm tired of getting reamed by ME. Posted by The_Stomper on Jul. 09 2001,14:03
I'm going to be triple-booting after my next format:Win 98SE (for non Linux gamez) ------------------ Posted by pengu1nn on Jul. 09 2001,15:35
jiggy i would go with 98se, or 2k, ME just sucks. i never have any weird crashes with 98 or 2k, just make sure you update them after you get it setup.
