You got three options:1) get source code and recompile 2) get a mac emulator (they exist) 3) hope apple is nice enough to port it for you MacOS and Windows are so completely different, much less the underlying instruction sets of the chips. Not a whole lot of chance otherwise. Posted by a.out on Feb. 24 2001,19:52
Current Macintoshes all use an ATI Rage 128 video card, specially made for macs with a special connector that allows you to connect the studio display. I don't know if it is the same as the "LCD Connectors" on some PC video cards. You could try to rip out one of the cards from a mac and install it in your PC, and see if it works (it probably won't). Or you could email Apple and ask them what your options are...

I'm so stupid that I thought you were referring to some software. Shows you how much I care about Macs.I have the feeling a lot of that hardware swapping will be possible after OSX comes out. Bah. I'm feeling extra dumb today. Posted by blanalex on Feb. 24 2001,22:47
Well, maybe it's not impossible, but Apple Studio Display connector not only transmit the data signal to the LCD but also the power, so trying to convert a PC LCD port to Apple's will imply somewhere an external power supply. However, I can guess that ASD will look great judging from my iBook LCD. ------------------ Posted by syf0n on Mar. 01 2001,20:59
to answer your question, Apple Cinematic Display + PC = GAY! What you're saying is that you like Apple. Don't be afraid, I think that Apple has a really wicked design scheme, and their design team deserves a lot of credit...just get ready to recieve a lot of flames. I'd rather have a Mac than a PC, and I think a lot of designers would...it's just that PCs are way more cost efficient, since not many can afford a machine JUST FOR GRAPHICS PROCESSING. Especially with a 4,000 dollar display. Hmm. If only they made more software for Macs, and they weren't so over priced, and they...OK, who am I kidding, they're pieces of shit. Microsoft should steal their design squad ;o)

To answer the fucking question YES! It's possible. There are DVI (normal digital out) to ACD (Apple Cinema Deiplay = DVI+Power+USB) converters. I'm not sure where you can buy them, but they exsist

first off, i dont dislike apple. theyre just stupid. allowing market clones was the smartest thing IBM ever did, the technology they make wont die, because there are so many people improving it. i like the studio display because its the biggest lcd display that you can get that was made for computers really....plus i like the buttons...edit: i forgot the second part - where can i get one of these combinerinos?? Well it's not the biggest as of now < http://www.samsungelectronics.com/monitor/products/240t.html >

I don't think we're talking about the same thing here -- what's the "Studio Display"? I'm talking about the Cinematic Display, that's the bigass flatscreen. You mean the regular one, that sort of sits on a tripod lookin' thing?dealer: Yeah, that just proves my point: they have a cool design but they suck otherwise. That's what I'm saying. But for the love of god, pick one or the other -- if you want a PC with a Mac monitor, it's like being half communist -- it'll never work out in the long run. z80: As long as we're all h4x0ring his account... What does it matter at this point, Mac no longer has the best LCD. < http://www.samsungelectronics.com/monitor/products/240t.html > ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Posted by syf0n on Mar. 02 2001,19:52
uhhh....cr0....it's an analogy. Most don't have anything to do with the other but a vague similarity. Don't you have a bong to hit?
Posted by syf0n on Mar. 02 2001,19:53
also, regarding that flatscreen....they (samsung or whoever) doesn't make the best ones either; < Panoram > does. I have one of their monitors on my '< badass stuff >' page...

those things are so sweet, the problem is it isn't one large or even curved screen, its like three flat ones pasted together. if only it curved around and didn't have that annoying plastic border between the three segments, that would be sweet... not sure if thats even possible for an lcd tho.------------------ Posted by Sithiee on Mar. 03 2001,01:33
i dunno, 2 extra inches for questionable quality(i dont really trust samsung) and not nearly as cool buttons(have you seen those? i must have played with the one at microcenter for 20 minutes)? i think id still have to go with the ASD...
Posted by DeadAnztac on Mar. 03 2001,02:14
Actually Samsung makes the ACD
Posted by Sithiee on Mar. 03 2001,02:43
since when?!? i thought apple still went by its non outsourcing policy?
Posted by DeadAnztac on Mar. 03 2001,04:00
Samsung produces Apples ACD, Motorola/IBM produce Apple's CPU's, godknowswho produces Apples RAM, IBM produces their AirPort (I think), etc, etc. So why is this a shock? This message has been edited by DeadAnztac on March 03, 2001 at 11:01 PM Posted by Sithiee on Mar. 03 2001,14:23
does apple make anything of their own anymore?
Posted by MattimeoZ80 on Mar. 03 2001,14:30
pft, they never did. if only they'd open their architecture, they'd actually have some decent sales. i wouldn't mind dual booting with macos, or even building a mac computer to run windows, especially with the geforce3. i thought motorola made the g4 chip and all their other ones, however.------------------ Posted by Sithiee on Mar. 03 2001,16:24
originally, i think they did make all their own stuff though...
Posted by DeadAnztac on Mar. 03 2001,16:54
No, it's always run o Motorola processors. Sorry to say. I mean since Mac was just an O/S from a semi-poor guy, he couldn't build his own fab plant right from the beggining. So he used Motorola cpu's. Makes sense really.
