I've tried 6.0 and 6.1. I'm currently using Linux-Mandrake 7.2 atm. It's a breeze to use - basically RedHat as the RH peeps should have done it. Then again Debian Woody has been frozen, I'm tempted to try that one now ...------------------ Posted by DeadAnztac on Feb. 21 2001,08:33
ok, one question. Why do you have X running on your ROUTER? Personally, I have almost nothing on my router that shouldn't be there. That way there's less things to exploit.. I mean I don't even have a compiler on my router. I would seriously suggest you do the same. More services and ports you leave open, more chance to get hacked. Just my humble opinion ~Anztac out. I agree, if all you are doing is routing you don't need X, or a video card for that matter. Linux will allow default terminal to go to serial without a video card. Just setup your router (ipchains or whatever), and let it go from there.NOTE: Red Hat 6.x/7 is still using WuFTP, this is a pile of shit, and I recomend using ProFTP ------------------ Posted by aventari on Feb. 21 2001,17:26
or does it? My RH6.2 router got hacked last week (damn modprobe overflow attack..) and the perps used my box to portscan a bunch of places, my ISP was happy to inform me. Well a few days later I reformatted and installed Red Hat 7.0 (my 6.2 CD is on loan) w/ the 2.2.16-2 kernel. No probs on the install.. Then, except for a couple lockups in X, i've not had a problem w/ it at all. I keep reading how much 7 sucks. Anyone else try it out? ------------------ Posted by RenegadeSnark on Feb. 21 2001,21:03
cr0bar used it and it thanked him with a kernel panic every day.

yeah I would agree, but I guess i wasn't too clear previously. It's not _just_ a router, its also my play with and learn about Linux box, so I do all sorts of stuff on it. :]Gimp, web server, programming projects (g++), dhcp server, etc ------------------ Posted by KL1NK on Feb. 22 2001,17:43
