If you're running on an nividia board, try this:< http://www.tweak3d.net/faq/#sw:drv:refresh > Posted by Observer on Feb. 17 2001,00:22
Is the color depth set the same between your normal desktop and in-game? If you are ever specifying refresh rates, you have to specify them for all the resolutions and color depths you will be using. Just set your desktop to those same size x color settings and manually set the refresh rate. Apply, then go back and change them to where they were.------------------ Posted by damien_s_lucifer on Feb. 17 2001,01:30
Observer's got it right. Case closed.

yes i set it to 85 for both 1024x768x16 and 1024x768x32. it stil switches to 60 hz when playing half life, which gives me a headache pretty fast.i dont think that link worked vigilante Posted by Vigilante on Feb. 17 2001,12:59
hmm, works for me. you could try < www.geforcefaq.com > but it seems they removed the entry I was pointing you toward, anyway.here's how I fixed it. I'm sure this is the long and lame way, but it works for me. (I'm going to continue assuming you're running win2k and a geforce, since you didn't correct me) pull up regedt32 there's an assload of keys in there. look for the ones that say NVx_Modes. find the one applicable to your card (if it's a geforce, deal with all the NV10 entries; geforce2, all the NV15s) Pull those up, and you'll see a chart showing the various resolutions and vertical refresh rates. Go through each of the applicable entries, and next to the resolutions you use, remove all the rates you don't want (moving from left to right). It'll default to the smallest one in that row. I personally removed everything but 120 for the resolutions I operate at, and it's worked for me. However, MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE to LEAVE THE ZERO at the end of each string. I dunno what happens if you remove the 0, but the old geforcefaq strenuously warned against it.
