And I suppose any program that decides to hate you would trigger that key?

Win2000 includes a bug... uuhhh I mean feature that lets you crash the system by holding down the right Ctrl key and pressing the Scroll Lock key twice. To enable this feature (*bug*), look below:

  • Start regedit from the 'run' box
  • Scroll to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\i8042prt\ Parameters.
  • From the Edit menu, select New, DWORD.
  • Enter a name of CrashOnCtrlScroll, then press Enter.
  • Double-click the new value, and set it to any nonzero value (e.g., 1). Click OK.
  • Close regedit.
  • Restart your system.

Once you hit the keys above the system will crash and display an error of MANUALLY_INITIATED_CRASH (0xE2).

* I personally haven't tested this, so as always do this AT YOUR OWN RISK, I don't think it would harm your system (but I could be wrong). Be careful!
