I am not an avid *nix user, so when I had the chance to buy a really cheap sun I didnt even hesitate. The solaris that was on the machine was shot and so I ordered the cds from SUN. In the mean time I figured Id put redhat on it just to dick around. I figured redhat on sparc would run similar to redhat on intel. I got the sparc iso and started the installation. Everything installed the same but nothing worked right. No ethernet, no raid, fucked up video, poor mouse keyboard response. I fixed the video and the mouse/keyboard problem. But the raid and the ethernet still dont like me. My solaris cds still arent here and Im just pissed.

Any ideas?

haven't you asked that before? A few months ago? Just curious...

Anyways, the problem with linux on sparcs is software porting. Totally different chip from linux's native chip, x86. A lot of drivers for things haven't been made/work right, and a lot of stuff just isn't being ported (yet). I remember hearing somewhere about a distro that was made for sparcs, might wanna check freshmeat.net for it.
