okay, boys and girls... inspired by a tool putting his system config as his sig, I am proud to start the first "BIG DICK" contest in the geek forum.

girls are welcome to participate.

the specs of my_dick are :

--- Core: ---
FIC SD11 : I hate FIC. Therefore I hate my motherboard. I fucked myself up the ass on this one... shoulda bought the Asus.

Athlon™ Classic : five hundred and fifty million cycles per second of pure processing power. AMD gave me this one for free because my business card makes me look like I deserve one.

384MB of PC133 SDRAM : If you have less that 256MB of RAM, I want you to take a pen and jab it repeatedly into your asshole. That is precisely how your machine feels about the memory situation.

13G IBM hard drive : 7200rpm! Zoom! I want the 30GB Deskstar.

300W SPI power supply with noise killer fan : why do people hook up 񘈨 worth of equipment to a cheap-ass power supply? I don't get it. Spend the extra thirty bucks and make your shit stable, you misers.

--- Multimedia: ---

Mitsumi 4X2x8 CD-RW : You can laugh at the brand, you can laugh at the slow speed, but it's still the best drive I've found for audio CD's. I back up a lot of those for my friends.

Pioneer 6x DVD : I can watch DVDs. That's pretty cool. See below.

Sound Blaster Live! Value : modded to have an SPDIF connection to DVD player, two quarter-inch mono inputs, and RCA SPDIF output.

Sony STR-DE445 Stereo Receiver : I bought it after Christmas. Oh, man, this thing is sweet. It has SPDIF digital input, with full Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS decoding.

Cambridge Soundworks bookshelf speakers : nice and buttery. They sound killer when I crank 'em up.

Roland D-5 synthesizer : my main music input device. One of the E's is broken and the top octave doesn't work. I hate it.

Korg Poly-800 synthesizer : this thing sounds so 80's I can't believe it. The interface is horrible, but I love the way it sounds.

Diamond Viper V770 : okay. This video card is wuss (16MB TNT2), but I don't really play games. A GeForce 2 is on the wishlist.

ViewSonic E771 : It's not the best, and not the worst. I worked on a 14" for so long, I'm just glad it's big.

--- Network: ---

1.5MBit DSL fed into a 100MBit switch in my housemate's room. 4 other machines, including 2 Linux boxes. Domain control by Samba.

--- Miscellany: ---
Logitech Internet Keyboard : it's a good keyboard, except for the fact that the left leg broke off. I have it propped up on two 16MB EDO SIMMs.

Microsoft Optical Mouse : if your mouse isn't optical, I feel really, really sorry for you.

Canon BJC-2000 : Never buy a Canon printer. They go through ink faster than I go through K-Y jelly.

Mustek 1200UB scanner : This is a nice little scanner. It runs off USB power (draw : 496mA), and uses red, green, and blue LEDs for illumination instead of a xenon tube. Scan quality is respectable. I probably wouldn't use it for commerical work.

Okay, that's mine, now let's see yours.

edit : this is the biggest post i've ever typed. i just wanted to say that. thank you.

Hey Damien, how do you like that STR-DE445? Doesn’t it make so much difference when you have an actual SOUND SYSTEM hooked up? I used to have the DE945 until I upgraded... I am currently pushing somewhere between 1500 and 2000 watts and when the bass hits my kidneys malfunction, my computer restarts, and the cops show up at my door...god I love it

Posted by kuru on Jan. 26 2001,09:03
i seem to remember a < thread like this > already.

for the record, i have an old dick.
my 200 MHz pmmx processor isn't very impressive and my 30 gig of hd space and 128 meg of ram is easily outdone these days.

hell yes. All of you who are running PC speakers, I am sorry... none of them thump like my system. From the sound of it, Blain, your system would kick my systems ass. I bow to you, sir.

don't talk smack about my sound card, though - it's too tricked out to be properly considered a "Live Value" any more. I just looked at the specs - a Live 5.1 is just a Live Value card with SPDIF out on the back. It uses the exact same sound chip, and the Value has pin connectors for everything.

If you have a connector on the back that says "Digital Out" you're already set. Just get a mono 1/8" plug to RCA adapter and plug into any Dolby Digital amp. If you don't, and are comfortable splicing two wires together, I can tell you how to make the digital connector, using a CD-ROM audio connector and a RCA cable.

You can also add a couple SPDIF IN ports, to plug in your CD-ROM (so the sc gets a digital signal on audio cds, instead of analog) or other SPDIF device.

good lord, I love a good sound system...

solid, for God's sake please get more memory. 128MB on a 800MHz PIII makes me want to cry

current price at my work is ๟ for 128MB.

Posted by syf0n on Jan. 26 2001,13:29
I don't know, my dick is really slow. It makes a lot of noise and takes quite a while to.....boot. Anyways, I just go next door and use any one of the 5 machines my neighbor has. None of them are less than dual 550 Xeon with 256mb RAM, so I don't have much of a problem.

//me smacks head// Goddamn, why didn’t I think of that? The only reason I wanted a 5.1 card is because it has optical out (the very words make me all warm and fuzzy inside)
Off to circuit shitty I go...

Posted by damien_s_lucifer on Jan. 26 2001,22:36
dual Xeon? I am jealous.

Blain - there's absolutely NO difference in sound quality between copper and optical SPDIF. They're just two different ways of encoding the same digital signal. It's a way for the audio companies to make $$$ - think about it - you almost got suckered into paying another 贄 for the same sound card you already have, plus another ุ for the optical connection.

Kinda reminds me of the Pentium IV.

what kuru said. NVRAM is sometimes incorrectly called "CMOS" or "CMOS RAM." it's where the BIOS stores info about hard drives, the time, plug & play configurations, etc.

i seriously doubt you have 64MB of it - more likely you have 64MB of SDRAM

Posted by The_Stomper on Jan. 27 2001,03:27
w00t! two 16MB EDO to prop up your keyboard? Are you nuts? Do you have any idea how much EDO RAM is worth these days? 16MB costs ๖ CDN right now - sell that shit!

There is an american megatrends BIOS that is popular among "all in one" super7 boards that will report the SDRAM size as being "NVRAM". . . .never could figure that one out. I prefer Awards BIOS myself.

bye

Posted by Blain on Jan. 27 2001,07:52
I know that there is no difference between optical and digital RCA cables, it’s just that I could never get my digital out to work with my soundcard. (I’ll admit that I didn’t try very hard) so I saw the 5.1 card and said “ohhhh…”
I tried to get the 1/8 inch mini to RCA from circuit city but they didn’t have it. Better yet, the sales clerk simply COULDN”T grasp the concept of a mono mini to be used for digital audio. “No, sir, you need a stereo mini to right and left RCA output…”

Posted by solid on Jan. 27 2001,15:08

yeah your NVRAM is goin to be slightly more expensive than your SDRAM, and it's permanent. well, until you flash your bios or your cmos battery goes dead. (i have heard a user refer to this as a "seamast" battery)

you're not going to have 64 MB of it, at any rate, because really that much isn't required for the things it has to remember. which would be your hardware configurations, onboot password, clock, plug-n-pray^H^H^H^Hplay, and a few other things in your bios.

most likely what's happening is your computer does an NVRAM check, and then scans your SDRAM just to make sure there are no problems, errors, compatibility issues, or changes with that, and it's showing up on the screen close together so it looks like the same thing.

blain - Radio Shack should have an 1/8" mono miniplug to RCA adapter or cable. It won't be spec'ed for digital or SPDIF in any way, so don't ask - you'll just confuse the salesman

Also, you'll need software capable of transmitting the multichannel Dolby Digital signal. The full retail version of < Intervideo WinDVD 2000 Multichannel > will do this, as will some OEM 1.x versions.

cr0, we MUST know what your system is...

An ABit Socket 7 Mobo (don't remember the model)
Cyrix PR333 @ 225MHz (75x3) shut up. I got it free.
64MB EDO RAM
Generic S3 PCI video, 2MB RAM
Realtek 8139 10/100 NIC
1.5GB HDD (/)
3GB HDD (/u1, for home directories)
Generic 250W AT power supply
running Slakware 7.0 (and currently d/l'ing kernel v.2.4.1)

This machine's entire purpose in life is to serve as the master NetBIOS browser (using Samba), and run httpd so I can test out CGI scripts.

40G WD 7200 x 2 : Yeah, old hardware. I can't wait to get my mother board and raid those 2 together. Only I wonder how I'm going to back everything up first?

300W power supply and Case: Just got my case this weekend. I'm modding it with a circle window and blue neon light!

--- Multimedia: ---

HP 93??i 10x?x32 CD-RW : I can't remember the RW speed, but that's cool cause I never use RW's.

Creative 6x DVD +Dxr3 Hardware Decoder : This drive is just kick ass!!!

Sound Blaster Live! Full : Love this card!

Sony STR-DE845 Stereo Receiver : I don't know much about the 445, but the 845 I have is way cool. But I'm seriously considering buying the new ONKYO 7.1 with component video inputs on the back. I'm a bigger home theatre buff than computer buff and that's saying a lot!!! I only have 8 more payments on my HDTV and I get to bring it home!!!! Mmmmm, MMmmmm, Mmmmm

Altec Lansing : These are stereo with a sub. They could use an upgrade. I do however run my Audio out from my computer room to my living room. And attached to my DE845 is a 15" 200 Watt Cerwin Vega Sub, Bose 701 Series front speakers, a Bose Center Channel, and Bose 301 Series Surround Speakers. Once I upgrade my video card I'll finally be able to run the video to my reciever and have a series MP3 machine!!!

Eliza Gladiac 32m GeForce 2: Woo Hoo, Bought my GeForce today!!!!!

OptiQuest V95 : I like my monitor.

--- Network: ---

@Home fed into a 100MBit switch. 2 other machines. Full Windows 2000 network!!

--- Miscellany: ---
Rocketboard baby! : I have a thing for COMPAQ keyboards, but when cr0 posted that news about a free keyboard, I couldn't resist.

Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer Optical Mouse : damien_s_lucifer "if your mouse isn't optical, I feel really, really sorry for you." (NO SHIT!!!!)

HP DeskJet 540: This printer fucking sucks ass!!! I'm saving up for a digital photo printer. Preferably an HP with a flash card slot.

Logitech QuickCam Pro : Waste of a USB port.

EDIT: I bought a new Video Card, my Second Processor, and a new case! I updated that info above.....

Nice sound system dude, I have that exact same sub and it seriously rox0rs. Heh, Sears used to price match *any* web site so I got mine for 赏 instead of 躔

I currently have a Yamaha HTR-5250 (I like the sound better then the DE-945, but it has a few less tweaks and imputs) BTW, I would literally give my left nut for a 7.1 system, so I am going to call you a bastard because I am jealous.(if you do get one)
My front speakers are Technics, they aren’t super expensive, but they sound pretty good (the 15 inch sub in each one doesn’t hurt), I have a pair of Bose subs hooked up to the B channel.
I am using a nice Bose center, but I only have the cube speakers for my rear channels; nevertheless they sound very nice.

You suck for getting that sub for 赏!!!!

Why don't you go find me that ONKYO cheap for me? I've found it for 񘛗.99

It's waaaaaaaaaaaay bad ass... THX EX Ultra certified. That's better than what they use in the theatre!!! Oh no... My dick is getting hard again!!!!

I'm not getting it until I get my WideScreen TV because as of now, I don't have use for the component video inputs. I can't imagine what the wiring is going to look like!!!

The receiver alone weighs 50 lbs!!!

I'm in love.....

Here's the < link to the product >. If anyone can find it cheap, please let me know!!!

Holy Shit, Jim. I almost konked my head after the orgasm those pictures of the Onkyo caused.

I need that reciever. I need to save my money and buy that thing! And a Big-Wide-Screen!!! AAAAAAAAA

I want to be rich!

Posted by Blain on Feb. 01 2001,02:53
Jesus Christ, just look at that thing...
/me wipes drool off self/
I really like Onkyo, in fact I would have gotten one instead of the Yamaha, but Sears doesn’t carry Onkyo and Circuit Shitty doesn’t price match.
It comes with it’s own cooling fan for Christ’s sake! I had to put a computer fan under my sony after I burnt myself by touching the top of it.

As for finding that sub for so cheap, what I meant was “Sears will price match any web sight. wink, wink” They don’t do that any more because some hackers hit a website and sears ended up selling a few thousand gameboys for ů a pop.
BTW, what kind of TV did you get? I would totally take that receiver over a HDTV, but I listen to more music then I do watch movies.

All my electronics are Sony except for my piece of shit 5 year old VCR, which is only for watching pornos anyway.

I have my Sony Reciever STR-DEH845
I have a Sony DVD Changer
300+1 Discs DVP-CX860

I still have an old Sony 5 disc CD Changer that I'm about to toss...
And then my newest baby is the KP-57XBR10W 57" 16:9 Hi Scan 1080i™ XBR Projection Television

Oh and my DirecTV is still RCA at the moment. I plan on buying a Sony Reciever and then moving the RCA into the Bedroom. My current TV is RCA as well.

You're missing one important piece, jim.

The Sony Playstation2. Always a fine addition.

Posted by jim on Feb. 01 2001,14:23

I know... I have the PS1 still, but I haven't used it in years.

I wasn't going to get a PS2, simply for the fact that I was going to wait on the Xbox. Now I wish I woulda got a PS2 while I had the chance....

You can't win them all!

I have one too (bought it about 2 months before it was release, and received it on the first day). It doesn't matter that you can't afford any games... because their aren't any. Not until March or so, because developers want their releases to coincide with another rush of systems to America. All bad planning, if you ask me. Us early adopters got screwed (except, I love my SSX )

I want a Vega/Wega too, but 躔 for a 27" TV? Ouch. Any bigger is astronomical. I'm considering it, though.. .mostly so i can have component inputs... from my Sony DVD and Sony PS2 and Optical out to my Sony receiver.

I'm a smoker, so I understand Brand-Loyalty

I do love Sony TVs, the picture is soooooo sharp and clear. I want a Wega (I don’t have room for a Projection screen) but I seriously can’t afford the 񘘐 for a 36-inch. More if you get hdtv.

Well, I don't have much of a dick but I will share it.

I have three PC's at home. I have a AMD K62 550 (which has to run at 500 because I can't compile kernel at 550). This sytem has a 3dfx Voodoo 3 3500 TV, 128 Mb RAM, 2x DVD, and 42x CD.

My second system has two 14 GB hard drives, 32 Mb RAM, Intel Pentium 133 running Red Hat 6.2 with the 2.4.1 kernel. The only real neat thing is that my one harddrive is the reiserfs filesystem, and houses my PostgreSQL databases.

My last system is purely for fun. It is a SparcSration 10 with two SuperSpart 150, and 256 Mb ram. It has a GX frame buffer so it can do 24 Bit at 1280x1024 (this was in 1994 mind you), and two 50Pin 5.9 MS 7200 RPM 18 Gb seagate hard drives. This is not much now but it makes one hell of a system for running the ultralinux port of snes9x. I have never missed a frame :-) The only thing I would like in this system is 100Mbit NIC. I am running on the integreated 10Mbit, and I would like to make use of the nuilt in ISDN as well.

Thats all I got for a dick!
