Well I finally got my new computer running. Not too bad for about 贄.(I already had alot of the parts)ATX Mid-tower case (ฬ) I needed the second pagefile hdd because the WD I have the write fucks up when it tries to write a pagefile. Strange little quirks. I'm taking the 4x4x24x burner out of my old comp tonight. It took almost 2 hours to install winxp with this shitty thing. The video card is on loan, my friend has my voodoo 3 agp for it. He's only got a 500mhz processer and the vid card didn't run that well with it. SO now I have it and it rules. Mwahaha. Right now I'm stealing net access from my living room computer, using borrowed equipment. Does anyone know how I could network my two comps together dirt cheap? This one has 1 net card and the other only has 1 as well. I could probably get another net card dirt cheap, but I'm not too sure how to shop for hubs. You guys have a lot more experience in this area, so any advice would be appreciated. Tanks ------------------ Watch what you say, say what you mean, Posted by Resonant on Dec. 01 2001,03:49
That is INSANELY cheap. Dell could make those and fire them off to colleges.

First of all, why haven't you warrantied that WD hard drive yet!??!Next, to do a simple network setup w/ intarweb sharing, all you need is: 2 Nics in one computer So set up one computer to be the gateway, with two nics. Have one be internal, and the other external with NAT turned on (excluding itself from NAT). Then plug the internal one into the secondary computer with the crossover cable. Should be fine. Oh yeah, and GET THAT DRIVE WARRANTIED. Western Digital has to be the best company for warranties... you should probably get your HD back within a week (I think any of mine that I've sent in they had in their posession for a day or so). And they usually send you a brand new drive! Anyway... Nice, CHEAP system Posted by caseman984 on Dec. 01 2001,04:25
I havn't because I didn't buy it. I got it for free from my friend. He dosn't have any of the information from the original purcahse, therefore could not warranty it. For all WD knows it could have "fallen off the back of a truck." I'll contact them about it tho. Thanks------------------ Watch what you say, say what you mean, Posted by miNus on Dec. 01 2001,04:42
Ok first off, get < this > to see if their diagnostics tools can find the problem. If not, go < here > and obtain a RMA. In my experience with them, all you need is the serial number off the drive, to be eligible for an RMA. I never had to send in any receipts... as long as the drive is under 3 years old you are in good shape.

I have the < GA-7dx Rev 2.2 > Its bascially the normal 7dx with all the extra crap taken off of it so its rather cheap.AMD-761 north bridge ------------------ Watch what you say, say what you mean, Posted by damien_s_lucifer on Dec. 01 2001,19:11
if you have acess to a credit card (yours / parents / etc.) you can get the replacement drive cross-shipped. Basically WD ships you a new drive to replace the old one. When new one arrives, you stick the old one in the same box and ship it back to WD. They don't bill you anything as long as they get the old drive back, and you usually get a replacement drive in 2-3 days.Just ask the nice person on the phone - "Can I have this cross-shipped?" What in the name of Zark are you talking aboot, eh? Western Digital has a 3 year "no hassle" warranty (no hassle meaning I haven't had any problems with them).

"There is no limited warranty on this product, it is not eligable for RMA"I don't know why there's no warranty. So now it stopped working on me completely, so I'm back on my old comp. I got a 5 gig that I'm installing XP to now. Whee fun fun. ------------------ Watch what you say, say what you mean, Posted by miNus on Dec. 04 2001,01:01
Ah, it's older than three years.Dat be da problem yo Posted by caseman984 on Dec. 04 2001,01:57
Says on the HDD"Date: 11 July 2000" So either your wrong, or thats the date the warranty expires. I've never seen an expiration date on a Hard drive before, but hey, anything's possible. ------------------ Watch what you say, say what you mean, Posted by ASCIIMan on Dec. 04 2001,02:06
Its probably an OEM drive.

Damn, no limted warranty according to the website. So now I'm screwed out of replacing it, and its only gonna live so long. It started doing that damn clicking thing again today. Ah well my comp still rules as long as it still works. :P------------------ Watch what you say, say what you mean, |
