whats the power consumption of the GF3 i've been seeing things posted around on several hardware sites that the kt7 boards have quite a bit of trouble remaining stable if bootable with graphics cards that have a high power consumption.

you could try seeing how many power sources you can run off the power supply directly instead of off the board to see if that helps. thats about the only thing i can offer but i'm not much of a software nut. is pnp OS option disabled in the bios? if it is enable that. if you think it is the bios then the best thing to d o would be to fuck around with it.

Any time a machine reboots spontaneously, you're in trouble. If it still does it after removing some periphs (hard drives, CDROMs, etc) and reinstalling XP, try a new power supply and/or motherboard. This happened to me over the summer--when I finally unplugged the ATX power header from the mainboard, I saw that the inside was nicely toasted. Luckily, replacing the power supply did the trick and my board survived.

it's funny, because oddly enough the drivers included in XP for my mouse at least work in XP, the XP drivers from logitech's website cause my keyboard AND mouse to not work.

heh, thanx guys, I tried alot of that stuff, even the PnP OS setting didn't fix it. The thing was that it rebooted in both Win2k and WinXP so i'm not sure whether it had anything to do with drivers.

I managed to go back to my old bios and it seems to be working fine now, but what's with that? Now it means if I want to reinstall WinXP I guess i'll have to reflash my bios again.

Should I install the 4 in 1's for XP? I notice I get alot less performance in games etc compared to 2k. What other drivers should I install for XP that don't already come with it, i've got the detonator4's but that's about it.

Hey if somebody could help me fix this problem it would be much appreciated. Recently i've been trying to install WinXP but had problems during the installation, it kept freezing when saying "Starting Windows...." in the installation screen.

After weeks of playing around I looked at the MSI website and found a new bios that was ment to fix this problem with installing WinXP and it did. I updated the bios the usual way by booting with a floppy and running the appropriate program.

I managed to install WinXP fine, but now I find that every time I try to do anything that uses the Geforce3 (besides 2d stuff, though even media player stuffs up) the computer reboots itself for no reason. It does this in both Win2k and WinXP, (I dual boot between the two).
Say I try run any game, it just resets, even if i try run the Bumpy Shiny Patch G3 demo it reboots in both XP and 2k. It won't be the drivers, as i've been using the same drivers before I updated the bios and they worked fine, I had no problems with running anything that used the Geforce3.

Does anyone have any idea why this is? I've tried playing around with the bios features, as it set everything back to the default, and i dont really think that it's a problem with either of the OS's. Could it be a bios setting problem? I haven't backed up my old bios but could i go back to another version.

My specs are -
ASUS Geforce3
Thunderbird 1.4ghz
MSI KT7 Turbo (MS-6330) with version 3.1 of the Award bios

BTW, random reboots do not always mean a hw problem. Win2k and XP reboot automatically after a blue screen, so most often in either of these OSes it means you have bad/nonexistant/incompatible drivers.

yes i agree i kinda assumed that you would have installed the 4 in 1 drivers as i doubt you pc would run at all (surprise surprise it doesnt) without them. their basically their to help your mobo coping with the yummy AMD stoof that be pumping through your chip. without them j00 are screwed
