ok... I just went out and bought 256MB of pc133 ram for my windows computer, install the DIMM, and my computer won't start.

Trust me, I've tried EVERYTHING I can think of. Rest jumpers, unplugged things. plugged things in. left COMOS battery out for hours to make sure BIOS settings were set to default... nothing is working. I've called the place I bought the DIMM, called the manufacturer (store told me number), called friends who work at local IBM place (I dunno, I was getting desperate)... nothing is working.

I've concluded that everything is getting power, but the BIOS is not starting. Now, I'm taking into consideration that it's possible when I installed the memory I was a little static-y and shocked a chip or two. I've done that before, and no problems came up, but I know just the right amount can fuck up a whole motherboard.

Any ideas at all? I'm already thinking I might need a new motherboard, and possible video card (all my cards, that I can tell, are starting or atleast doing something except that one).

I dunno if this makes a difference to anyone, but with my usb dsl modem, when I started up, the usb light would blink green for a couple seconds and go red until the OS started. When I start it now it does nothing. That tells me it's possible sections of the board aren't doing or getting something... I dunno, I'm not that much of a hardware geek.

If anyone can give me any ideas, I'd greatly appreciate it. I just can't figure this one out.

It's probably bad ram. It happens. RMA it.

As for the USB DSL modem thing, that sounds to me like after resetting your bios settings, the bios stopped making usb calls and let the OS deal with it. It might be because ACPI got switched on/off.

I took the system to the place I bought the RAM. I know it's not bad RAM because when I tried my old RAM I got the same problem. I figure I fucked up the BIOS some how. They're supposed to call me thursday. I just hope they don't fuck up my harddrive because I just downloaded Dude Where's My Car and I don't want to have to download it again...

sounds like bad ram. take the ram back and get a new stick. if it is still fucking up try the processor, sounds stupid but my shit wouldn't start so i figured it was the damn vid card, but it was the cpu.

also might try a new power supply but i doubt that has anything to do with it
