can be some sort of a conflict between your mouse and a sound card

same problems here m8. didnt happen in win98 started to happend in 98se.

for me i think the suspect was the partitioning of my hardrive. i think it caused some bottleneck with my soundcard or something. still havent fixed it fully but i dont really mind that much you get used to it

Using WDM sound drivers on slower computers could cause those problems because the video card (using a custom pointer?) is competing with the sound card for PCI bus bandwidth.

What do you use to play MP3's?

If it's winamp, go into the properties and change the output filters and the amount of cache that they use.

As for the others, or suspected conflict with mouse and soundcard, could you tell us about your setup?

same thing happened to me ever since i installed a 2nd hard drive and moved all my mp3's onto that.

but it only happens when the system is busy opening another program on either disk

heh...reading from a second harddrive is like reading off a cd...but slower.. it's not in that harddrive's cache for the most part so its hella slow reading.

windows media player is a ram hog. m$

I wouldn't say that... all of my mp3s are on my second hard drive. Primary slave, UltraATA100... works just fine...
