Well? If you were buying one, which would it be and why?Personally I want both. Posted by solid on Nov. 04 2001,02:29
Xbox, but only because it has Dead or Alive 3 on it.
Posted by incubus on Nov. 04 2001,03:50
I was gonna say both! I'd let them be out a while before I make any rash decisions. They also come down 贄 in proce after 6 months so dont be hasty. ------------------ Posted by askheaves on Nov. 04 2001,04:30
I'd say XBox (and i'm getting one) for a couple reasons.1. Built in DVD player that plays full sized DVD discs. Posted by Greasemonk on Nov. 04 2001,10:38
Gamecube, I already have a computer...------------------ Posted by ASCIIMan on Nov. 04 2001,11:57
I don't see how I can not buy a GameCube. I mean come on! Just look at these reasons to savor some tasty Nintendo goodness:The three reasons why I WILL buy a GameCube Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader *and* SUPER MONKEY BALL!!! edit - I won't be getting an XBox because I already have a computer that can kick several XBoxs' collective asses. And I already have Photoshop. This message has been edited by ASCIIMan on November 05, 2001 at 06:59 AM Posted by afropik on Nov. 04 2001,17:48
X-Box, don't really feel like getting into the reasons why.
Posted by Beldurin on Nov. 05 2001,04:10
I'm still pining for a PS2, especcially now that Soul Reaver 2 is out. That game is going to be BAD ASS! The first one is my second-fav game of all time (behind FFII). You never get good story, good play, good writing, AND good voice-acting like the LoK games deliver...Sorry...off-topic...I'd probably prefer an Xbox after seeing some prelims of the OddWorld (stunning) game for the Xbox and Luigi's Mansion for the Game Cube (queer). Bottom line is that MS isn't hampered by the self-inflicted "family system" image that Nintendo gave themselves and are now trying to kind of weasel out of. They're trying to have it both ways now, family fun and some teenie-bop gore...but that's not really going to work... ------------------ Posted by The_Stomper on Nov. 05 2001,10:17
Hehe ... both would be nice. XBox would likely be the one to stick around more ... although Mario Kart for the Cube would probably r0x0r in its own merits. For now I'm keeping my PS2 for several good reasons: FFX, GT3, GTA3, MGS2, DMC Shipment should be here in a week. Funny thing is, my DC isn't exactly gathering dust right now either. I may have to get a DC, PS2, Cube, and XBox. Damn. Posted by Dark Knight Bob on Nov. 05 2001,10:29
Crazy taxi 2 is one madass game!why should i bother slagging the DC off when my brother goes and buys a piss cheap one for himself and i reap all the benefits. ------------------ Posted by jim on Nov. 05 2001,11:54
Xbox.(1) All games run in a minimum of 480(p) mode. ------------------ Posted by Vigilante on Nov. 05 2001,13:55
Halo is the alpha and omega.
Posted by jim on Nov. 19 2001,12:26
Got my XBox! Love it! Played a game cube, it sucked nuts!If you own or are every considering owning a Wide screen TV or a digital TV, YOU NEED AN XBOX!!! I had this feeling that only a few games were going to support wide screen mode. So far every game I've bought supports full widescreen progressive mode! XBox doesn't lock up. Not sure where you got that load of crap. Also note, Rogue Squadron was the game I played on the Gamecube that made me decide it sucked ass. I think Nintendo always has, and always will be geared towards kiddies... Posted by L33T_h4x0r_d00d on Nov. 19 2001,16:47
quote: I got that load of crap standing in Toys 'R' Us trying to play a locked up Xbox. You'd reset it and it would load up halfway and lockup at the menu. One of my buddies complained of the same thing in a local EB. They were playing the 4 player tank game and anytime someone would shoot the graphics would slow then lock the machine. ------------------ Posted by miNus on Nov. 19 2001,22:00
Here's a good reason to buy an Xbox:
Posted by ASCIIMan on Nov. 19 2001,22:25
Ummm... No it doesn't.
Posted by solid on Nov. 20 2001,01:49
Don't you just love how the X-box is slowly shattering the hearts of Nintendo fans?
Posted by askheaves on Nov. 20 2001,02:34
I have my Xbox. I love my Xbox. I loved the Super Nintento I got for christmas one year that my mom made my dad return before we got to open it (don't ask... messy divorce thing). I didn't like the N64, so I never bought one. The gamecube impresses me even less. However, I love my Xbox. You don't understand, I love my Xbox.I've put more hours into Halo than any game I've ever played aside from CS. I've watched movies on it because my DVD player died in August. I load some games just to stare at the ground to look at textures. It has so much raw power. I love it. Has anybody held a Gamecube controller? Does anybody notice that it's really small? It feels like it would fit my hand great if I were Ages 2-7, or, rated G. It's purple! I have a harddrive! I've burned CDs onto my Xbox and listened to them while playing Project Gothem Racing. As soon as I get a long enough Cat-5 cable, I'm going to try to play anything online. How much of an argument is there here? I've played GamePube and it bores me. It's not meant for us. We're able to watch PG-13 movies. And as for crashing, the reason is well documented. The store demo disks that were shipped were programmed toward reference drivers for an older model of the nvidia chip in there. So, when trying to load that disk, it failed on the final hardware. Any newer disk loads fine. I've had no crashes. The harddrive owns! When you play Halo, the next level must be cached on the harddrive so that when you walk into the next level, the screen flashes. That's level loading, your screen flashes. I can't get over it. It rules too much. That is all. Posted by miNus on Nov. 20 2001,09:27
It's a fucking < c-o-m-p-u-t-e-r >. You know, those things you work with everyday?
Posted by The_Stomper on Nov. 21 2001,03:09
Cram it, boy!Everyone says "XBox is a computer" - hey, dumbass - just because it has a harddrive and an Intel chip don't make it a PC. The Intel chip has been tweaked with a bit, and the GPU 0wnz j00 and j00r m0th3rz. And the harddrive - you're right askheaves, it's used for a lot of precaching. In fact, DOA3 installs 350MB+ of data onto there to eliminate load times. I bought a GameCube. To resell it for a profit to some desperate Nintendo fanboy. You think I'm gonna play that escapee from a Teletubbies episode? Thought Tinky-Winky was supposed to be hauling one of those things around. Posted by miNus on Nov. 21 2001,03:21
Ooookay! The chip is a mobile celeron with a 133mhz fsb. The motherboard is a nVidia nForce made to work with an intel chip. It's got a hard drive (it's even a freaking SEAGATE for chrissakes!), DVD Rom (with a different connector, oooh). The one big difference that I can see is that the ram is soldered onto the board as chips. Just take a look at those pictures from hardocp... You can see pretty clearly... Posted by askheaves on Nov. 21 2001,04:48
Just thought you should all know that I just beat Halo tonight... about 20 minutes ago. A buddy and I coop'ed the whole game over the course of the week. I'm very happy :-DAnd, whether it's a computer or not, it's a hell of a lot less of a pain in the ass than a computer. I can turn it off and on at will. I won't need to reinstall. It just works, and the games are developed for a stable platform... so, no minimum requirements bullshit. And, regardless of the arguments against it, it still brings me happiness... which is all that matters Posted by Dark Knight Bob on Nov. 21 2001,09:05
PS2Edit: i tried to overclock my PSX couldnt get at anything important anyone know how? This message has been edited by Dark Knight Bob on November 22, 2001 at 04:07 AM Posted by Spydir on Nov. 21 2001,14:31
I'm to lazy to read this whole thread, but if anyone said this already I'll just recap:Harddrives in consoles ARE EVIL! Think about it. You know the problems computer games have? Patches. Why? Because a game developer can halfass a game, release it, then just let patches out. With a broadband ready box with a harddrive, they can do the same fucking thing. Give it 2-3 months. Then everyone is gonna have different versions of the games, and you won't be able to play network games or use your friend's saved game to see how to get around that one really hard part or anything. And if you truely believe the xbox isn't a computer, you're a fucking dumbass. The xbox is just a emachine with a little more mombo-builtin shit and a prettier box, and a different operating system. So yeah. Fuck the xbox, fuck the gamecube or whatever, and just shut the hell up. I'm watching comedy central all day so I can win a xbox, sell it on ebay for 2000 dollars, buy a ps2 and new equipment for my LINUX computer. Then, I'm gonna write an article about the whole thing, publish it in a few newspapers or magazines, and send it to M$ just to piss them off. That's right, bitch, I'm an asshole and I'm fucking proud of it. edit - my english teachers are so proud of me ------------------ This message has been edited by Spydir on November 22, 2001 at 09:34 AM Posted by miNus on Nov. 21 2001,14:49
The only reason I would ever buy an xbox is to play Halo.Is it similar to Tribes 2? Posted by The_Stomper on Nov. 21 2001,14:54
Well once I get my XBox, I plan to play it to death and then resell it to an MS fanboy - just like I'm doing with my Cube. Then back to good old Sony I go. Posted by Greasemonk on Nov. 21 2001,16:15
I dont really need an XBOX. I already have a PC. My roommate got a Gamecube. Its ok, I still see Nintendo as a primarily kid system with 1 adult game coming out once every year. Xbox is too much too, we will see what happens next Spring after the holidays calm down.------------------ Posted by The_Stomper on Nov. 21 2001,16:39
Here's a little story for you guys."Once upon a time, Stomper bought an XBox. Moral of this story? If you do have an XBox and a TV that can cope: GET OFF YOUR ASS AND BUY THE HD PACK NOW! Posted by solid on Nov. 21 2001,19:34
Mind you, that precious PS2 will have a hard drive addon soon. I'm not sure if it will have a modem addon though.
Posted by Spydir on Nov. 21 2001,21:23
yeah, Linux on PS2, anyone?you M$ probably programmed in some hardware failure to make sure you can't do that with the xbox. the moment anything with "linux" in it is processed, the CPU shorts out ------------------ Posted by Dark Knight Bob on Nov. 21 2001,21:32
they deliberately left out a modem in case people wanted something like adsl or cable when the time was right unlike that dreamcast thing.------------------ Posted by askheaves on Nov. 22 2001,02:12
You know what, argue all you want about why theoretically or morally the Xbox is wrong and evil, but in the end, it really does kick ass. It's beautiful. It's pretty. Just do this thing: go to Electronics Boutique or whatever, and play Halo on their store display. Then, play an outdoor level. Then, look down and stare at the photo-quality grass. Then look up and see the beautiful terrain 2 miles away. Then, cry. Or, if DOA3 is in the machine, go to the forest level and splash around in the water for a while. You'll wet your pants with the beauty. As a sidenote, has anybody found the equivalent of the CG gallery that's in DOA2:Hardcore in DOA3? I was looking for it and found nothing. Posted by afropik on Nov. 22 2001,03:15
That reminds me, I played DOA3 the other day and noticed that in the snow level, there's about a foot and a half of snow on the ground. Now let's say you get slammed into the snow, it conforms to your character like real snow. At the end of the match, it looks like a herd of buffalos trampled through. The only thing I could see making that cooler would be if there were some sort of blood snow effect.

Ill probably stick with my PS2. Until they make some GAMES, not a game, to get me to buy an XBOX or Gamecube. Besides my roommate has a Gamecube, its ok. We will see what happens in a few months when games start coming out for each system.------------------ Posted by pengu1nn on Nov. 22 2001,14:40
i think i'll stay with my ps2 too. i'm happy with it. i like nintendo too, zelda is cool. i think i'll get them both when prices come down. doa3 looks badass. paper. plastic.paper. plastic.paper. plastic. This message has been edited by pengu1nn on November 23, 2001 at 09:41 AM Posted by Dark Knight Bob on Nov. 22 2001,19:19
askheaves you dont count your self a confessed microsoft monkey. thing is its like with the n64, they brought it out too late. it was better but it didnt have a big enought hold on the market. we shall see whether microsoft will do any good. ------------------ Posted by askheaves on Nov. 22 2001,23:56
Wanna know something funny? I judge a system on it's controllers. I figure that every second I'm playing a game, my hand is on that controller, so it's important to me. The PS ones are really close to perfect, though I don't understand why the 'analog' button exists. I wouldn't buy a Dreamcast because it felt so weird. The Gamecube controller felt so small. The Xbox controller is slightly big, but it doesn't bother my carpel tunnel. Everything is where it's supposed to be. It's one of the little things that demostrates to me how much the company is thinking about my well-being. My only complaint with the Xbox controller is that I still confuse those black and clear buttons with X and Y, or whatever. I kept trying to turn on my flashlight, but ended up butting my buddy in the face with my gun.
Posted by solid on Nov. 23 2001,03:33
Heh, askheaves, you should get your hands on the japanese X-Box controller. It's slightly smaller, and...Hey here's one more thing I love about the X-Box: all the extra different controllers you can buy and stuff.. you don't usually get 3rd party hardware support that's actually approved by the company that makes the console. Posted by Spydir on Nov. 23 2001,16:16
I was playing a xbox with halo in it at some video game store yesterday. The graphics were exactly like my computer if I have nothing but the game running, and the controls were funky. I mean, they were ok, I'd get used to them, it's just weird to have to move forward/backward/left/right with one little joystick/analog thing, and look around with another. It got *really* funky. I'd like to play DOA3 on one before I really decide, but I'm still saying away from buying one. If I like DOA3 enough, I might win one or accept one as a gift, but then it won't be xbox. it'll be DOA3box.------------------ Posted by afropik on Nov. 24 2001,02:02
I'd just like to point out that the following stores suck uberdonkey dick- EB - EBX (Yes, I know they're the same store, yet there's two in my mall, so eat it) - KB Toys - Toys "R" Us - Circuit City - Wal-Mart - Best Buy "Why do these stores suck uberdonkey dick?" one may ask. Well, none of the fuckers have x-boxs in stock. I should know, considering I spent half my day driving around looking through all of them. The only contender for sucking minimal amounts of donkey dick would have to be Best Buy, because they're getting another shipment on monday. Posted by TallAssAzn on Nov. 24 2001,02:17

Is the bundle such a bad deal? They require you to get a piece of hardware and 3 games. Well, weren't you going to get a second controller anyways? And how many games were you going to buy? You have to buy Halo, and it's a law that you buy DOA3. So, you have to choose one other game to fill out the bundle. You would have anyways. All I recommend is don't buy a memory card. It's pretty unnecessary. Posted by miNus on Nov. 24 2001,15:56
My friend bought the bundle and said that two of the three games have to be microsoft... and the accessory has to be microsoft.

halo is, without a doubt, one of the most well-crafted levels ever created./me wants rogue leader and NEEDS SSBmelee and have we forgotten metroid? and other titles worth waiting for such as Zelda, Mario Kart, FZero? the games that are FUN - after a drunken student binge, mine is the room that gets invaded so drunk people can play Mario Kart 64 and Super Smash Bros. and < THIS > is pretty much confirmed, so is NOT an exclusive for the XBOX. anyway, i don't have the desk space for an ATX case, so the XBOX is out anyway. --directhex Posted by directhex on Dec. 24 2001,22:54
the Mad Catz Dream Blaster _IS_ the official dreamcast gun in the UK. it happens. and just like the Dream Blaster, stamping a logo on an accessory dosen't stop it being shit. thousands of n64 controllers were released but the official one was STILL best. if anyone can get me a USB adapter for it in the uk for not much money, please let me know! i LIKE the way it handles, even for FPS games! --directhex Posted by coldfusion on Mar. 03 2002,22:09
They both suck.Go w/ PS2, that's what i got. Posted by ASCIIMan on Mar. 05 2002,09:04
Wrong.Actually, in terms of actual hardware capability, the ranking would go like this: (1) XBox (although I hate to admit it) (2) GameCube (3) (4) PS2 I, however think that most of the XBox games suck uberdonkeydick, and that the XBox is a horribly overpriced piece of shit. I prefer the GameCube for it's games, although I also have a PS2 back at home (although I play the GameCube a more often). Posted by Necromancer on Mar. 05 2002,17:01
the saturn was superiour ot the psx in manuy ways but that went down the pan you know why? cos of worse marketing and software support. gamcube: supermonkey ball x-box: hal0 ps2 : GTA3!!!!, Final Fantasy , metal gear solid, GT3, DVD player. sony have marketed it yet again at an audience that has the money to pay for a ps2 and have also cornered the market outside of the gaming comunnity. it all comes down to getting the best balance and sony know their shit. if i want a pc i'll get a pc its that simple not an x-box. Posted by ic0n0 on Mar. 07 2002,00:10
I just want my comp to run x-box games.
