Ok, I just upgraded to office xp. but now, when i try to send mail, before it even has a chance to go through to the server, i get a mail in my inbox :quote: i know its not being denied by my mail server cos i got a crappy connection and these mails from "system administrator" get tossed into my inbox immediately after i press send/receive without having a chance to be sent to the server. edit: or could it have something to do with the questionable source of my copy of xp? thanx This message has been edited by beuges on June 25, 2001 at 04:13 PM Posted by RenegadeSnark on Jun. 24 2001,21:13

i would, except it doesn't recognise my internal modem edit: if anyone can help me set up my internal unbranded rockwell hcf 56k under linux, i will be very grateful. it's detected in the hardware list as a serial communications device, but when i try to detect it it cant' be found This message has been edited by beuges on June 25, 2001 at 04:25 PM Posted by kornalldaway on Jun. 24 2001,22:30
i don't know too much about setting modems under linux, but i heard that sometimes a little kernel editing is required.

well... i know just about.. nothing about linux (i will be soon though), but why dont you just go get another fuckin modem that is supported under linux? 56k's arent that expensive....wait.... you paid 軤 for office XP? god damn... ------------------ Posted by cr0bar on Jun. 25 2001,00:56
Are you sure you have your SMTP server set correctly? Most mail servers won't let you relay through them unless you're on the same network (i.e., are you using your ISPs SMTP server or some other server?).

outlook just stopped working for me awhile back... every message received had a blank subject, body, and sender field... lost a bunch of mail that way. reinstall. microshaft blows it every time... so far no problems with win2k, but we'll see.

quote: no... hence it's questionable source thing is, outlook worked perfectly until i upgraded. and i can retrieve all my mail without problems. its just when i send mail, it comes back the moment i click send, from the so-called "system administrator" with the abovementioned "relaying denied" message. i am sure this is cos some settings are somehow messed up. or maybe it was just my mail server fucking up. regarding my modem... its not that i can't afford an external 56k, at the moment i cant justify the expense (i'm still a student) seeing as how it works fine under windows. maybe next year when i start work at my l33t job with lots of $$$ i'll consider it. 'email.me@webmail.co.za' might be your problemi am not sure about outlook, but i have seen a few email clients that has a problem with certain email adresses and webmail accounts. now i don't know if the above is your actual email. Since it gives that agress and says relaying denied i would assume that is some sort of SMTP server that for some reason can't relay your message, or outlook doesn't suppost that kinds of smtp server. my only sudgestion would be to try with a few other email clients. try eudora or any other client, there's plenty out there. ------------------ Posted by beuges on Jun. 30 2001,15:24
well its working now.except that i reinstalled win2k, sp2 and office xp. dunno for how long tho :/ another thing, related to my modem in linux... when i run lspci it detects my modem as a faxmodem, not as a winmodem. Posted by incubus on Jul. 05 2001,19:44
take it out, look at the FCC ID, then go to linmodems.org - somewhere on there is a link to GromitKC's page with a list of known working / nonworking winmodems.the fact that you get something in lspci is a very good sign matey. BR ------------------ Posted by beuges on Jul. 15 2001,16:51
Ok, I figured out why stupid outlook wasn't working... it only did the stupid relaying denied thing when I was at my parent's home... cos their ISP sucks and their IP doesn't resolve properly, so the mail servers wouldn't let the mail go thru... but when i'm at home (or if I connect to my isp from my parent's place), it works fine.

Problem : Outlook sucks.Solution : < Eudora. > As for the Linux modem problem - look on eBay or something for a USRobotics ISA bus Sportster modem (*NOT* the WinModem). Those have jumpers with which you can configure the modem's hardware settings. Just set it to COM1 - COM4, and tell Linux which port your modem's on, and away you go Posted by Spydir on Jul. 16 2001,03:31
that's the modem I used with my linux box for a long time. really good piece of hardware.------------------ |
