In loving memory of my 100MBit hub, a victim of the hot weather today. It is survived by 2 box0rs and a Netgear switch.May it rest in peace. This message has been edited by damien_s_lucifer on June 21, 2001 at 10:22 PM Posted by kai on Jun. 21 2001,04:01
ah yes, my hub to went this way butit's better to have pinged and dropped packets than to have never had network traffic at all.

If you need another one, I can point you at an 8-port 10/100 switch for ึ. Unless the NetGear is enough.

I should get one of these. It'd sure be better than that crappy 10 MBit hub & bridge to BNC I'm still running. < The Switch > has: 10/100 Switching ( duh ) Brand new, retail boxed, ready to ship, 1 year warranty. Posted by damien_s_lucifer on Jun. 26 2001,22:52
quote: Oh, man, that is SO wuss. 2MBit buffer = 256KByte / 8 ports = 32K / port, which will fill in 320 microseconds. Enjoy your collision light, 'cause it's gonna flash a lot... By comparison, the NetGear FS-105 has 1.6MBit (200KB) per port. If you get collisions on this thing it's time to upgrade to Gigabit Ethernet. skylink, my favorite networking hardware. Man, that 3com and intel stuff is shit.

SkyLink 8-port w/2.0Mbits = ึNetGear 5-port w/1.6Mbits = ๊ How do you know the SkyLink doesn't have 2.0MBits per port? ------------------ 0wning more 0wnage than anything has ever 0wned before - priceless. Posted by ic0n0 on Jun. 27 2001,16:54
i need to buy a cable router what should i buy? (Linksys | Netgear) or something else?Price doesn't matter as long as it is under 200$. any advice? ------------------ Posted by damien_s_lucifer on Jun. 27 2001,20:53
quote: I know it's not per port because it doesn't say per port. These guys are already inflating their numbers, as shown by their usage of "MBits" instead of KB. 2 mega-somethings sounds more impressive than 256 kilo-somethings (2MBit = 256K). Cheap brands are famous for twisting their numbers to make it look more impressive. ic0n0, I've played with both the Netgear and the Linksys broadband routers, and they both work very well. Buy the one that's on sale

Those two numbers were in the same document and they directly contradict each other... oh well the switch r0x0rs like LA on a seismic day. ------------------ Jim Bruer: I dont know.. fight mexicans or something.
