there is no outbound filtering on XP's firewall... but since I don't care about outbound filtering, it doesn't bother me much

If IIS servers and Outlook still have holes you better believe the firewall in XP is not one bit bulletproof. I will not get XP until at least SP1 comes out. Plus the product activation for the "home" user just doesnt make sense. If you arent going to make companies do it dont make Joe Smith...------------------

i would still use blackice or zone alarm because I have a funny feeling that the MS one would still let certain programs out without telling you.

The default firewall setup for XP is to shut down *all* inbound connections... so even if IIS is running, no one will be able to connect to it.
Of course, Outlook is another problem entirely.
