ok my freind doesnt have a network card and we want to connect our two pcs together in order to play 2 player things like hidden and dangerous and also other games such as....hidden and dangerous. thing is i cant figure out how to get it to work. i have them both plugged into the smae com ports have both pc's serial settings that the game asks for the same as it says in the manual but still cant seem to get it to work. he has win95 and i have win98.

alternatively i would like to try getting modem 2 modem connection. now i was thkning all that usually hapens with this is that you dial up to the other guys house and the modem connects but if we are in the same room is there a way of giving a phone number to the hosts or clients pc so that the modems can talk to each other. any help would be appreciated as we just wanna get this working before we get network cards cos we are very impatient

A regular serial cable won't do the trick. You'll need a null modem cable, or since you already have the cable, a null modem adapter. It just goes on one end of the cable and switches a couple of lines so that the two PCs can talk to each other.

As for connecting two modems in the same room, first I think you have to put a 9-v battery across the two center wires to pull the signal up. Then when you make one PC dial, force the other one to answer.

Personally I think the null modem solution is easier and simpler.
